Who is it for?

Children aged over 10 years and 11 months, and under 16 on 31 August can get an 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard.

If your child was 15 on 31 August, they can still apply for and use an 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard, even though they'll use it when they're 16.

How to apply

A parent or guardian must apply for an 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard.

When you apply, you agree that Zip Oyster photocard holders will comply with our Young Person's Behaviour Code. If they don't, we can withdraw their photocard.

To apply online, you need to provide:

  • Active email address
  • Details from your child's machine-readable passport to verify their identity (If you can't provide this, follow the instructions online. You'll need to go a Post Office to complete your application.)
  • Digital photo of your child which must be a .jpg, .bmp or .gif file and less than 6MB

If you have a contactless and Oyster account for a non-Zip Oyster photocard, you need to use a different email address to create a photocard web account.

You pay an administration fee of £15 using a credit or debit card.

We'll post your 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard to you within one week of applying.

You apply online and need to provide:

  • Active email address
  • Details from your child's machine-readable passport to verify their identity (if you don't have one, you must apply four weeks in advance)
  • Digital photo of your child which must be a .jpg, .bmp or .gif file and less than 6MB

If we can verify your child's identity online, we'll post their 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard within one week of applying.

If we can't, you'll need to take proof of identity to collect their 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard from a Visitor Centre.

Collect from a Visitor Centre

You need to apply four weeks in advance to collect a Zip Oyster from a Visitor Centre.

We'll email you when your application is complete, and you can choose which Visitor Centre to collect from.

Bring your application complete email with you and provide one of the following to prove your child's identity:

  • Valid passport
  • ID card from a European Economic Area country
  • Birth certificate

If you need to change the photo on your 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard, your collection date may change.

You apply online and need to provide:

  • Active email address
  • Digital photo of your child which must be a .jpg, .bmp or .gif file and less than 6MB
  • Credit or debit card to pay an administration fee of £15

We'll email you when your application is complete and you can then collect your 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard from a Visitor Centre.

Collect from a Visitor Centre

You need to apply four weeks in advance to collect a Zip Oyster from a Visitor Centre.

We'll email you when your application is complete, and you can choose which Visitor Centre to collect from.

You need to provide:

  • Application complete email
  • Proof of your child's identity using either an original valid passport, ID card from a European Economic Area country or birth certificate

If you need to change the photo on your 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard, your collection date may change.

How to use 

Once you get your 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard, you can use it straight away.

Make sure you touch in at the start of your journey and touch out at the end on yellow card readers. You only need to touch in on buses and trams.

Use your photocard web account to manage your card or report a lost card.

Expiry

11-15 Zip Oyster photocards expire on 30 September in the year after your child's 16th birthday.

A parent or guardian can then apply for a 16+ Zip Oyster photocard.

Young Visitor discount

If you don't live in London and you're visiting with children who don't have an 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard, they can get discounted travel for up to 14 days with the Young Visitor discount:

The discount can be added to a standard Oyster card or Visitor Oyster card by a member of staff at:

  • Any Tube, London Overground or TfL Rail station
  • Visitor Centres (except Gatwick Airport South Terminal)
  • Victoria National Rail station ticket office

The children must be with you when you ask for the Young Visitor discount.

Travelling with a discounted Day Travelcard

Children aged 5-15 can get a discounted Off-Peak Zones 1-9 Day Travelcard, if accompanied by an adult with a valid:

To buy the Day Travelcard, you must show your Railcard or Annual Gold Card to staff at Tube, London Overground, TfL Rail, National Rail Stations or Visitor Centres.

You need to buy a discounted ticket for your travel and you must accompany children whilst travelling.
