Who it's for

If you're 60 or over and live in a London borough, you can get a 60+ London Oyster photocard until you're eligible for a Freedom Pass.

You can't get a 60+ London Oyster photocard if you already have a Veterans Oyster photocard.

What you get

  • Free travel on bus, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground, Elizabeth line (excluding between West Drayton and Reading) and most National Rail services in London
  • You can travel free on TfL services anytime Monday to Friday, except between 04:30-09:00. You can travel free anytime at weekends and on bank holidays
  • Discounted fares on River Services
  • Discounts on Santander Cycle Hire

Travel on National Rail

You can travel free on most National Rail services anytime Monday to Friday, except between 04:30-09:30. You can travel free anytime on weekends and public holidays.

Before you apply

You can apply for a 60+ London Oyster photocard from 2 weeks before your 60th birthday.

You will need:

  • Active email address
  • Details from your valid, machine-readable passport or your valid UK driving licence (full or provisional)
  • A colour image of your valid, machine-readable passport. This must be in .png or .jpg format and be less than 6MB. The image must show your photo, personal details and passport number
  • A clear, unaltered colour digital photo of you which is a .jpg, .bmp or .gif file and less than 6MB. If we're unable to accept the photo or passport image you have uploaded, we'll email you to let you know and you'll need to upload another to finish your application
  • A debit or credit card registered at your address to confirm you live in a London borough and pay £20

If you don't have these, you can still apply online but may be asked to:

  • Print a verification letter and take it to a Post Office in London with proof of your age and address
  • Pay £20 at a Post Office

Proof of age can be one of the following:

  • A valid passport
  • An ID card from a European Economic Area country
  • Medical Card
  • Birth certificate
  • A valid driving licence
  • Biometric Residency Permit

Proof of address can be one of the following:

  • Residential utility bill (from last 3 months)
  • Bank, building society or credit statement (from last 3 months)
  • Department for Work and Pensions letter (from last 3 months)
  • HM Revenue and Customs letter (from last 3 months)
  • Occupational pension letter (from last 3 months)
  • Council Tax bill
  • Television licence
  • A valid driving licence
  • Council or Housing Association rent book or statement

Apply online

The first step is to set up a photocard web account.

Use a different email address if you already have an online account for another Oyster card.

If you have any problems applying online or proving your age or address at a Post Office, call us on 0343 222 1234 Monday to Friday 08:00-20:00 (charges may apply). Then, select option 1.

After you apply

  • To check your application status, sign in to your photocard web account or text your application reference number to 07624 809 330. You'll receive a response from our SMS service (standard network changes apply) 
  • Once you get your 60+ London Oyster photocard, you can use it straight away 
  • Make sure you always touch in at the start of your journey and touch out at the end on yellow card readers. You only need to touch in on buses and trams 
  • To manage your card, sign in to your photocard web account. You can also report a lost, stolen or damaged Oyster photocard 
  • Note that you cannot add credit to your 60+ London Oyster photocard to pay as you go

60+ annual address check

You need to provide proof of your London borough address and pay £10 (non-refundable) for each year you have your photocard.

We'll let you know how and when to do this. Use your photocard web account to keep your contact details up to date so you don't miss any important messages from us.

Your photocard will be stopped if you don't provide proof or if you no longer live in a London borough.

If you're still eligible, you need to apply for a new 60+ London Oyster photocard and pay £20.

When it expires

When your 60+ London Oyster photocard expires you may be eligible for a Freedom Pass.

If you agreed to share your data with London Councils when you applied for your 60+ London Oyster photocard, they'll send you a letter to confirm your name and address.

Once they've received confirmation and you meet the criteria for a Freedom Pass, London Councils will send you a Freedom Pass. You don't need to apply or provide a new photo.
