The ULEZ scrappage scheme is helping clear London's air by providing grant payments to successful applicants to scrap or retrofit vehicles that do not meet the emissions standards and switch to cleaner, greener modes of transport. Successful applicants can also choose to donate suitable vehicles to Ukraine, and still receive a grant payment.
Following more than 54,000 successful applications, the Mayor's scrappage scheme is now closed for new applications. If you applied before Sunday 8 September 2024, we guarantee that your application will be processed and reviewed for eligibility.
Check if your vehicle meets the ULEZ emissions standards now.
See the emissions standards, daily charges and penalties for these vehicle groups:
London residents who have applied to scrap, donate or retrofit a car, motorcycle or wheelchair accessible vehicle can find next steps here:
London-based sole traders, micro businesses, small businesses or charities that have applied to scrap, donate or retrofit vans or minibuses can find next steps here:
Successful scrappage scheme applicants can choose to donate suitable vehicles to Ukraine instead of scrapping them, and still receive the grant payment.
British-Ukrainian Aid (a UK-registered charity) will support with the transfer of vehicles to Ukraine to be used for humanitarian and medical purposes.
More information on how to donate your vehicle to Ukraine through the scrappage scheme can be found on our scheme pages.
If you would like to donate your vehicle to Ukraine but are not eligible for the scrappage scheme or have missed the application window, you can contact British Ukrainian Aid. As the scheme is now closed to new applicants, you will not receive a grant payment from TfL.
Several organisations provided offers and promotions to support the scrappage scheme and the Mayor's ambition to improve air quality in London. There were exclusive promotions for successful scrappage scheme applicants as well as offers for all London residents to take advantage of, whether they applied to the scheme or not. These offers were available between 30 January 2023 and 8 November 2024.
Offers included hire and/or subscription services for bikes, cargo bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters. There were also discounts on car clubs with fleets which meet the ULEZ emissions standards.
There are also some discounts, grace periods and exemptions available. Drivers and vehicles may qualify for a temporary discount from the ULEZ, while others may be entirely exempt.
There are a wide range of TfL travel discounts and people who can travel for free. Check to see if you are eligible for free or discounted travel.
