Buses operated under contract to TfL are not exempt from the ULEZ. Every bus in the ULEZ now meets at minimum Euro VI emissions standards. Find out what we're doing to reduce emissions from buses.
All vehicles in this category will need to meet Euro VI standards.
The ULEZ will be enforced based on the declared emissions of the vehicle rather than the age - but Euro VI engines are generally those registered with the DVLA after 2014.
We would prefer vehicle owners to use vehicles that meet the emissions standards rather than pay a daily charge.
A daily charge runs form midnight to midnight. If you drive within the ULEZ area across two days, for example before midnight and after midnight, you will have to pay two daily charges.
These are in addition to any Congestion Charge or Low Emission Zone (LEZ) charges that apply.

The ULEZ (and LEZ) schemes allow for some vehicles to retrofit emissions reduction technology to meet the standards.
Retrofit technologies need to be certified by the government's Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme (CVRAS). The CVRAS currently only has emissions reduction technologies certified for buses, coaches and refuse vehicles, although equipment suppliers can test and certify equipment.
Any HGV, bus, coach or refuse vehicle with emissions reduction technology fitted needs to have this certified by the CVRAS. Once certified, the owner should notify TfL directly.

From 26 October 2020 the London-wide LEZ emissions standards will be made tougher for heavier vehicles to match the ULEZ Euro VI standard.
These vehicles will need to meet Euro VI emissions standards within the LEZ boundary or pay a daily charge.
