Colindale and Northern line works

We are carrying out work which will provide step-free access and a larger ticket hall at Colindale Tube station. For more details of these improvements, see our project page for Colindale station step-free access.

We need to close Colindale station until the afternoon of Friday 20 December 2024.

We also carried out a series of partial line closures as part of these works. The last closure took place Saturday 7 to Sunday 8 September. No further line closures are planned.

This webpage will be updated regularly.

Colindale station - temporary closure

  • Colindale station is now closed
  • It will re-open during the afternoon of Friday 20 December 2024
  • During the closure, trains will not stop at Colindale Tube station
  • During the closure, we are advising people to use buses to connect with nearby Northern line and Thameslink stations

Re-opening the station - Friday 20 December

We plan to re-open Colindale station during the afternoon of Friday 20 December 2024.

When the station re-opens:

  • It will do so in a temporary state, with access to the platforms via a temporary passage and down the new staircases
  • A one-way system will be in place, and the station may be busy at peak times
  • There will be no real time customer information available at platform level. This will be introduced at a later date
  • Take the first train and change at Camden Town for onward travel.  Staff will be available to provide further assistance
  • You may find it more comfortable to continue to use alternative routes until the Colindale upgrade works are complete in autumn 2025

The last day of service for the temporary NL6 bus service will be Friday 20 December. Existing local bus routes, such as the 186, remain in operation.

For more details about the final stages of works, and the planned re-opening, see our Colindale station step-free access project page.

If you use an Oyster card, you will need to travel again with your Oyster card and then the refund will be sent back to that card
  • We are running extra buses on route 186 to fill the gap in service between the 186 bus and the N5 night bus, after midnight on Friday/Saturday and early morning Saturday/Sundays.  They provide access to Northern line stations for Night Tube services. The extra buses are running between Hendon Central and Quakers Course (Grahame Park) / Edgware while Colindale station is closed.
