Colindale station step-free access

What we're doing
An upgraded Northern line station will be built in one of London's fastest-growing neighbourhoods.
The Colindale station improvements include:
- A spacious new ticket hall, increasing its capacity so it can accommodate the projected growth in passenger numbers
- A lift to offer step-free access from the street to platform level
- A new building, serving as an important gateway to the wider Colindale area
Barnet Council has given planning approval for the station building project. Any further residential development in the area will need a separate new planning application.
We'll offer more information on a start date as details of the work are confirmed.
Closures
To do the work, we'll need to close the Northern line between Edgware and Golders Green for a time, and temporarily close Colindale station. The dates and length of these closures are not yet confirmed.
Stay up-to-date by checking this page, our TfL Go app, or Journey Planner, and signing up for our email alerts.
Minimising impact
Colindale station will close temporarily because of the complexity of building over an operating railway and the narrowness of the existing island platform.
We looked at options to keep it open, but it's not possible to operate safely while doing these complex works at the same time.
We're working with Barnet Council to keep impacts on neighbours and Underground customers to a minimum.
Funding the work
The scheme is funded by the Government's Levelling Up Fund (subject to final approval), as well as contributions from Barnet Council and TfL.
We're working with Barnet Council to ensure construction work can begin as quickly as possible once funding has been released.
