Christmas & New Year Services 

Here's our guide to service levels on the bus network for the Christmas and New Year period: 

Monday 23 December - Normal Monday School Holiday timetable on day bus routes and normal Monday service on night bus routes 

Christmas Eve, Tuesday 24 December - Saturday timetables on day bus routes with weekday only route SL6 running a normal timetable & route 969 also operating on this day. There will be no night bus services and 24-hour routes will finish around Midnight. 

Christmas Day, Wednesday 25 December - No service 

Boxing Day, Thursday 26 December - Sunday timetables on both day and night bus routes.  

Friday 27 December - Saturday timetables on day bus routes with weekday only route SL6 running a normal timetable. A Saturday night timetable will run on the night bus network. 

Saturday 28 December - Normal Saturday timetable on both day and night bus routes 

Sunday 29 December - Normal Sunday timetable on both day and night bus routes 

Monday 30 December - Saturday timetables on day bus routes with weekday only route SL6 running a normal timetable. A Saturday night service will run on all night bus services. 

New Year's Eve, Tuesday 31 December - Saturday timetables on day bus routes with weekday only route SL6 running a normal timetable & route 969 also operating on this day. Special timetables will run on night and 24 hour bus routes. Many Central London routes will be curtailed short of the Westminster / West End areas from late afternoon due to road closures for the New Year celebrations.  

New Year's Day, Wednesday 1 January - Sunday timetables on day and night bus routes. 

Thursday 2 January - Normal timetables resume.

New Year's Eve night bus services 

A Saturday night service will be in operation on all night and 24-hour bus routes this New Year's Eve. A large number of road closures will come into force from late afternoon until around 0600 with buses curtailed to bus hubs outside of the closure area.  

The following changes will take place to bus routes on New Year's Eve: 

Route 1 will run in a split service after 1830 with buses running between Canada Water Bus Station and Elephant & Castle every 12 minutes & between Hampstead Heath and Russell Square every 15 minutes. 

Route 2 will only run between Vauxhall Bus Station and Norwood Garage after 2230 with no service between Vauxhall and Marylebone Station. 

Route 3 will be diverted at Kennington Church after 1830 to run to Imperial War Museum via Kennington Park Road, Elephant & Castle, and St George's Road. Buses will return from Imperial War Museum via Lambeth Road to Kennington Road and normal route to Crystal Palace. There will be no service between Kennington Church and Victoria after 1830.  

Route 4 will only run between St Paul's Station and Archway Station after 1930 with no service between St Paul's and Blackfriars Station.  

Additional journeys will run on route 6 at between Victoria and Kensal Rise Station in both directions between 2330 and 0230. 

Additional journeys will run on route 8 in both directions between Midnight and 0130.  

Route 9 will only run between Green Park Station and Hammersmith Bus Station after 1930 with no service between Green Park and Aldwych.  

Route 11 will be diverted between 1430 and 1600 in both directions between Westminster City Hall on Victoria Street and County Hall via Artillery Row, Greycoat Place, Horseferry Road, Lambeth Bridge and Lambeth Palace Road. After 1600 route 11 will only run between Fulham Broadway and Victoria Station with no service between Victoria and Waterloo.  

Route 12 will only run between Dulwich Library and Elephant & Castle after 1600 with no service between Oxford Circus and Elephant & Castle.  

Route 14 from 1930 until 0600 will only run between Green Park Station and Putney Heath with no service between Green Park and Russell Square. 

Route 15 will only run between Blackwall and Aldgate Bus Station after 1930 with no service between Aldgate Bus Station and Trafalgar Square. 

Route 17 will only run between Archway and St Paul's Station after 2000 with no service between St Paul's Station and London Bridge Bus Station. 

Route 19 will only run between Finsbury Park Bus Station and Holborn Station after 1930 with no service between Holborn Station and Battersea Bridge.  

Route 21 will be reduced to run every 20 minutes between London Bridge and Holloway, Nags Head after 2230. Additional journeys will run on route 21 at 0126 and 0138 from London Bridge to Lewisham. 

Route 22 will only run between Green Park Station and Putney Common after 1930 with no service between Green Park and Oxford Circus. 

Route 23 from 1930 until 0600 will only run between Green Park Station and Westbourne Park with no service between Green Park and Aldwych.  

Route 24 will be diverted between 1400 and 1930 in both directions between Victoria Station and Tottenham Court Road Station via Grosvenor Place, Hyde Park Corner, Piccadilly, Piccadilly Circus and Shaftesbury Avenue to Charing Cross Road. After 1930 route 24 will run in two sections, Hampstead Heath to Tottenham Court Road Station and Victoria Station to Pimlico, until 0600 the next morning.  

Route 26 will only run between Hackney Wick and Aldwych after 1330 and then between Bank and Hackney Wick only after 1830. 

Route 29 will only run between Tottenham Court Road Station and Wood Green after 1930 with no service between Tottenham Court Road and Trafalgar Square.  

Route 35 will run an enhanced service with a bus every 7-8 minutes all night long between Clapham Junction and Elephant & Castle with services running beyond Elephant & Castle to Shoreditch every 15 minutes. 

Route 36 will run between Vauxhall Bus Station and New Cross Gate only between 2330 and 0130 with no service between Vauxhall and Queens Park. Additional journeys will run at 0414 and 0444 from Marble Arch to New Cross Gate 

Route 37 will run an enhanced service with a bus every 12 minutes until 0200 and then every 15 minutes until 0430 between Peckham Bus Station and Putney Heath 

Route 38 will only run between Clapton Pond and Holborn Station after 1930 with no service between Holborn Station and Victoria.  

Route 40 will only run between Elephant & Castle and Dulwich Library after 1930 with no service between Elephant & Castle and Clerkenwell Green.  

Route 43 will have additional buses running between London Bridge Bus Station and Muswell Hill Broadway between Midnight and 0200. 

Additional journeys will run on route 44 at 0021 and 0044 from Victoria Station to Tooting Station. 

Additional journeys will run on route 47 from London Bridge to Lewisham every 30 minutes between Midnight and 0230. 

Route 53 will only run between Elephant & Castle and Plumstead Station after 1400 with no service between Elephant & Castle and County Hall.  

Route 59 will be diverted at Kennington Church after 1830 to run to Imperial War Museum via Kennington Park Road, Elephant & Castle, and St George's Road. Buses will return from Imperial War Museum via Lambeth Road to Kennington Road and normal route to Streatham Hill. There will be no service between Kennington Church and St Bart's Hospital after 1830.  

Route 63 will only run between Elephant & Castle and Honor Oak after 1930 with no service between Elephant & Castle and King's Cross. 

Route 68 will only run between Elephant & Castle and West Norwood after 1830 with no service between Elephant & Castle and Euston.  

Route 76 will only run between St Paul's Station and Tottenham Hale between 1830 and 0600 with no service between St Paul's and Waterloo.  

Route 77 will only run between Vauxhall Bus Station and Tooting Station after 1600 with no service between Vauxhall and Waterloo.  

Route 87 will be curtailed to run between Lambeth Bridge and Wandsworth only after 1400 and then between Vauxhall Bus Station and Wandsworth after 1930. Route 87 will run additional journeys from Midnight until 0130 with buses running every 10 minutes in both directions between Vauxhall Bus Station and Wandsworth. 

Route 88 will be diverted from 1400 until 2330 in both directions between Vauxhall Bridge and Oxford Circus via Vauxhall Bridge Road, Victoria Station, Grosvenor Place, Hyde Park Corner, Park Lane, Marble Arch and Oxford Street. After 2330 route 88 will run in two sections, Parliament Hill Fields to Oxford Circus and Vauxhall Bus Station to Clapham Common, until 0600 the next morning.  

Route 91 will only run between Russell Square and Crouch End Broadway after 1830 with no service between Holborn and Trafalgar Square. 

Route 94 will only run between Oxford Circus and Acton Green between 1930 and 0600 with no service between Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus.  

Additional journeys will run on route 97 at 0025, 0040, 0055, 0110, 0125, 0140 and 0200 from Chingford Bus Station to Stratford City Bus Station and at 0055, 0110, 0125, 0140 and 0200 from Stratford City Bus Station to Chingford Bus Station. 

Additional journeys will run on route 104 at 0130, 0200 and 0230 from Beckton Bus Station to Stratford Bus Station and at 0140, 0210 and 0240 from Stratford Bus Station to Beckton Bus Station. 

Additional short working journeys will run on route 108 from North Greenwich Bus Station towards Lewisham Town Centre between 2245 and 0130 using double deck buses. This is alongside the 30 minute service between Stratford International and Lewisham Town Centre. 

Additional journeys will run on route 129 from North Greenwich Bus Station for Lewisham Town Centre at 0130 and 0200 and from Lewisham Town Centre for North Greenwich Bus Station at 0130 and 0200. 

Additional journeys will run on route 131 from Kingston to Tooting Broadway at 0015, 0035, 0055, 0115, 0140 and 0200 and from Tooting Broadway to Kingston at 0100, 0120, 0140 and 0200. 

A revised late evening timetable will be in operation on route 132 with changes to times and additional journeys. Buses will depart North Greenwich Bus Station for Bexleyheath at 0130, 0200 and 0230 and from Bexleyheath for North Greenwich Bus Station at 0040, 0100, 0130, 0200 and 0230. 

Route 133 will only run between Streatham Station and London Bridge Station after 2000 with no service between Holborn Station and London Bridge.  

Route 139 will only run between Oxford Circus and Golders Green between 1800 and 0600 with no service between Oxford Circus and Waterloo.  

Route 148 will be diverted between 1430 and 1600 in both directions between Westminster City Hall on Victoria Street and County Hall via Artillery Row, Greycoat Place, Horseferry Road, Lambeth Bridge and Lambeth Palace Road. After 1600 through until 0600 route 148 will run between White City Bus Station and Victoria Station only with no service between Victoria and Camberwell Green.  

Route 153 will be reduced to run every 15 minutes from 1700 until last bus in both directions. 

Route 158 will have additional buses running between Midnight and 0200 in both directions. 

Route 159 will be diverted between 1400 and 1600 in both directions between County Hall and Trafalgar Square via York Road, Waterloo Bridge and Strand. After 1600 through until 0600 route 159 will be diverted at Kennington Church to run to Imperial War Museum via Kennington Park Road, Elephant & Castle, and St George's Road. Buses will return from Imperial War Museum via Lambeth Road to Kennington Road and normal route to Streatham Station. There will be no service between Kennington Church and Oxford Circus after 1600.  

Additional journeys will run on route 171 at Midnight, 0030, 0100, 0130 and 0200 from Elephant & Castle to New Cross Bus Garage and at Midnight, 0030, 0100, 0130 and 0200 from Brockley Rise to Elephant & Castle. 

Route 172 will only run between Elephant & Castle and Brockley Rise after 1800 with no service between Elephant & Castle and Aldwych.  

Route 176 will only run between Elephant & Castle and Penge from 1800 until 0600 the next day with no service between Elephant & Castle and Tottenham Court Road Station.  

Route 185 will only run between Vauxhall Bus Station and Lewisham after 2230 with no service between Vauxhall and Victoria Station.  

Route 188 will be curtailed to run between Elephant & Castle and North Greenwich Bus Station only after 1600. Extra buses will run on route 188 between 0130 and 0430 providing a 15 minute service between North Greenwich Bus Station and Canada Water Bus Station with every other bus extending to and from Elephant & Castle. 

Additional journeys will run on route 205 at 0035, 0105 and 0125 from Paddington to Bow Church. 

Route 214 will be reduced to run every 15 minutes from 1700 until 0030 in both directions. 

Route 238 will run an enhanced service with buses running every 20 minutes between 0015 and 0515 between Barking Station and Stratford Bus Station and 0050 and 0520 between Stratford Bus Station and Barking Station. 

Route 243 will only run between Holborn Station and Wood Green Station from 1800 until 0600 the next day with no service between Holborn and Waterloo. Towards Wood Green buses will depart from the bus stops on Procter Street and divert via High Holborn and Grays Inn Road to Clerkenwell Road. 

Route 254 will run every 30 minutes all night long between Aldgate Bus Station and Holloway, Nags Head providing a combined 15 minute service with route N253 between Aldgate and Holloway. 

Additional journeys will run on route 280 from St George's Hospital to Belmont Station at 0043, 0103, 0123, 0143 and 0203 and from Belmont Station to St George's Hospital at 0045, 0105, 0125, 0145 and 0205. 

Additional journeys will run on route 297. Buses will depart Ealing Broadway for Willesden Bus Garage at 0028, 0049, 0110, 0130, 0150, 0210, 0230, 0300, 0330, 0400 and 0430. Buses will depart Willesden Bus Garage for Ealing Broadway at 0014, 0034, 0054, 0115, 0135, 0155, 0215, 0245, 0315, 0345, 0415 and 0445.   

Route 341 will only run between Holborn Circus and Meridian Water Station from 1800 until 0600 the next day with no service between Holborn Circus and Waterloo.  

Route 344 will be diverted in both directions from 2000 until 0600 between Vauxhall Bus Station and Monument Station. Buses will run via Kennington Lane, Newington Butts, Elephant & Castle, Newington Causeway, Borough High Street and London Bridge instead.  

Additional journeys will run on route 345 from Peckham Bus Station to South Kensington at 0017, 0039, 0107 and 0137 and from South Kensington to Peckham Bus Station at 0020, 0050, 0120 and 0135. 

Route 360 will be diverted in both directions after 2000 between Vauxhall Bus Station and Elephant & Castle via Kennington Lane and Newington Butts. Then after 2330 buses will be diverted between Chelsea Bridge Road and Elephant & Castle in both directions via Chelsea Bridge, Queenstown Road, Battersea Park Road, Nine Elms Lane, Vauxhall Bus Station, Kennington Lane and Newington Butts.  

Route 381 will only run between Peckham Bus Station and London Bridge from 1630 with no service between London Bridge and Waterloo, County Hall. 

Route 390 will have additional buses running between Midnight and 0200 in both directions. 

Route 453 will be diverted between 1400 and 1600 in both directions between County Hall and Trafalgar Square via York Road, Waterloo Bridge and Strand. After 1600 through until 0600 route 453 will only run between Deptford Bridge and Elephant & Castle.  

Additional journeys will run on route 468 at 0010 and 0028 from Elephant & Castle to Norwood Garage.  

Route C10 will be diverted in both directions after 1630 between Pimlico Station and Elephant & Castle via Vauxhall Bridge, Kennington Lane and Newington Butts. After 2330 buses will be diverted in both directions between Victoria Coach Station and Elephant & Castle via Ebury Bridge Road, Chelsea Bridge Road, Chelsea Bridge, Queenstown Road, Battersea Park Road, Nine Elms Lane, Vauxhall Bus Station, Kennington Lane and Newington Butts.  

Additional journeys will run on route W3 at 0030, 0040, 0100 and 0120 from Northumberland Park to Wood Green and at 2356 from Finsbury Park to Wood Green. 

Route N1 will only run between Elephant & Castle and Thamesmead with no service between Elephant & Castle and Tottenham Court Road Station. 

Short working journeys will run on route N2 from Brixton Station to Crystal Palace Bus Station every 30 minutes. This is alongside the 30 minute service between Marylebone Station and Crystal Palace Bus Station. This will provide a 15 minute service between Brixton and Crystal Palace. There will be no service between Vauxhall Bus Station and Marylebone Station before 0100. 

Route N3 will be diverted at Kennington Church to run to Imperial War Museum via Kennington Park Road, Elephant & Castle, and St George's Road. Buses will return from Imperial War Museum via Lambeth Road to Kennington Road and normal route to Bromley North. There will be no service between Kennington Church and Oxford Circus. 

Route N5 will only run between Tottenham Court Road Station and Edgware Bus Station with no service between Tottenham Court Road and Trafalgar Square. 

Route N9 will only run between Green Park Station and Heathrow Terminal 5 with no service between Green Park and Aldwych. 

Route N11 will only run between Victoria Station and Ealing Broadway with no service between Victoria Station and Whitehall. 

Route N15 will only run between Aldgate Bus Station and Romford Market with no service between Oxford Circus and Aldgate. 

Route N18 will run between Oxford Circus and Sudbury or Harrow Weald only with no service between Oxford Circus and Trafalgar Square. Additional journeys will run between Oxford Circus and Harlesden until 0200. 

Route N19 will only run between Finsbury Park Bus Station and Holborn Station with no service between Holborn Station and Battersea Bridge.  

Route N20 will only run between Tottenham Court Road Station and Barnet Hospital with no service between Tottenham Court Road and Trafalgar Square. 

Route N21 will only run between London Bridge Bus Station and Bexleyheath with no service between London Bridge and Trafalgar Square. 

Route N22 will only run between Green Park Station and Fulwell with no service between Green Park and Oxford Circus.  

Route N25 will have a revised frequency of a bus every 8-9 minutes between Oxford Circus and Ilford, Hainault Street but with additional buses running between Tottenham Court Road and Stratford Bus Station in both directions until 0230. 

Route N26 will only run between Bank and Chingford Bus Station only with no service between Bank and Victoria Station.  

Route N29 will only run between Tottenham Court Road Station and Enfield Town with no service between Trafalgar Square and Tottenham Court Road. Additional buses will run every 20 minutes on route N29 between Camden Town Station and Wood Green Station alongside the normal 10 minute service between Tottenham Court Road Station and Enfield Town. 

Route N38 will only run between Holborn Station and Walthamstow Central with no service between Holborn and Victoria. 

Route N41 will only run between Holborn Station and Tottenham Hale with no service between Holborn and Trafalgar Square. 

Route N44 will only run between Victoria Station and Sutton with no service between Victoria Station and Aldwych.  

Route N53 will only run between Elephant & Castle and Plumstead Station with no service between Elephant & Castle and Whitehall. 

Route N63 will only run between Elephant & Castle and Crystal Palace with no service between Elephant & Castle and King's Cross 

Route N68 will only run between Elephant & Castle and Old Coulsdon with no service between Elephant & Castle and Tottenham Court Road.  

Additional journeys will run all night on route N86 between Stratford Bus Station and Romford Station alongside the normal 30 minute service between Stratford Bus Station and Harold Hill. 

Route N87 will only run between Vauxhall Bus Station and Kingston with no service between Vauxhall and Aldwych. 

Route N89 will only run between Elephant & Castle and Erith with no service between Elephant & Castle and Trafalgar Square. 

Route N91 will only run between Holborn Station and Cockfosters with no service between Holborn and Trafalgar Square. 

Route N97 will only run between Green Park Station and Hammersmith with no service between Green Park and Trafalgar Square.  

Route N98 will have additional journeys with buses running every 10 minutes until 0200 between Holborn and Willesden Bus Garage and every 30 minutes onto Stanmore. Normal service resumes from 0200. 

A revised timetable will be in operation on route N109 with buses running every 10 minutes between Imperial War Museum and Croydon Town Centre only. There will be no service between Imperial War Museum and Oxford Circus. 

Route N113 will only run between Oxford Circus and Edgware with no service between Oxford Circus and Trafalgar Square.  

Route N133 will run an enhanced service with a bus every 15 minutes all night long between Liverpool Street Bus Station and Morden Station.  

Route N136 will only run between Vauxhall Bus Station and Chislehurst before 0100 and then between Victoria Station and Chislehurst after 0100, with no service to or from Oxford Circus.  

Route N155 will only run between Elephant & Castle and Morden with no service between Elephant & Castle and Aldwych. 

Route N171 will only run between Elephant & Castle and Hither Green with no service between Elephant & Castle and Tottenham Court Road. 

Route N199 will only run between London Bridge Bus Station and St Mary Cray with no service between London Bridge and Trafalgar Square.  

Route N205 will run an enhanced service with a bus every 15 minutes all night long between Paddington Station and Leyton, Downsell Road. 

Route N207 will have some additional journeys with buses running every 7-8 minutes until 0200 between Holborn Station and Hayes By-Pass and every 21-22 minutes onto Uxbridge. After 0200 buses will run every 10 minutes between Holborn Station and Hayes By-Pass with every other bus continuing to Uxbridge 

Additional journeys will run on route N271 between 2200 and Midnight between Moorgate, Finsbury Square and Holloway, Nags Head. 

Route N279 will only run between Tottenham Court Road Station and Waltham Cross with no service between Tottenham Court Road and Trafalgar Square. Additional journeys will run between Camden Town and Tottenham, Swan until 0200. 

Route N343 will only run between London Bridge Bus Station and New Cross Gare with no service between London Bridge and Trafalgar Square. 

Route N381 will only run between London Bridge Bus Station and Peckham with no service between London Bridge and Trafalgar Square. 

Route N550 will only run between St Paul's Station and Canning Town Bus Station with no service between St Paul's Station and Trafalgar Square. 

Route N551 will only run between St Paul's Station and Gallions Reach Shopping Park with no service between St Paul's Station and Trafalgar Square. 

Route SL6 will be rerouted after 1830 from the bus stop at Holborn Station. The stops at Aldwych, Waterloo Bridge and Waterloo Station will not be served however buses will stop to pick up from bus stop SB on Blackfriars Road at Southwark Station.

Walthamstow bus station closed until Saturday 21 December 2024

During essential safety work in the bus station please use alternative nearby stops and take care when crossing roads.

Routes 34, 55, 69, 212, 215, 230, 275, SL1, SL2, W12, W15, W19, N26, N38, N73 will not stop in the bus station but will call at alternative stops near to the bus station.

Routes 20 and 257 will terminate at Leyton Green

Route 58 will terminate at Markhouse Corner

Route 212 will terminate at Walthamstow Central and not serve St James Street

Route W11 will terminate at Walthamstow Market

The Tube station exit into the bus station and the lift will also be closed.

• To change between buses and Victoria line - use the exit via London Overground Platform 2. There are about 30 stairs
• To change between buses and Victoria line avoiding stairs - use bus route 230 between Blackhorse Road and Walthamstow
