Bus changes

Route changes in North London - 4 February 2023

Routes Affected: 21, 76, 91, 141, 143, 234, 263, 271, N91, N271 and W5 

From Saturday 4 February we will be making some changes to routes in North London. The changes are described below along with a map showing the planned changes. The new departure times can be found in our journey planner tool http://www.tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey

 

Route 21

Route 21 will be changed to run between Lewisham Shopping Centre and Holloway, Nags Head, instead of Newington Green, replacing route 271 between Moorgate and Holloway. 

Route 21 will be rerouted at the junction of New North Road and Baring Street in Hoxton via New North Road, Essex Road Station, Canonbury Road, Highbury Corner, Highbury & Islington Station and Holloway Road to Holloway, Nags Head terminating at bus stop X outside City & Islington College. Buses will start from bus stop L on Parkhurst Road then return as described to New North Road to rejoin the current route back to Lewisham. See the attached map for more details.

Route 21 will no longer serve Baring Street or Southgate Road, which will continue to be served by routes 76 and 141, or Mildmay Park and Newington Green which will continue to be served by route 141.

Route 21 will continue to run every 8-9 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 12 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays.

 

Route 76

Two additional journeys from Tottenham Hale Bus Station to Waterloo, Baylis Road will be introduced in the AM peak on Monday to Fridays on route 76. There will be no other change with route 76 continuing to run every 10 minutes during the PM peak and also the daytime on Monday to Saturdays, every 12 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays and every 30 minutes throughout every night of the week.

 

Route 91

Route 91 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with minor changes to times.
Buses will continue to run every 10 minutes at all times on all days of the week except before 0800 on Saturday mornings and 0900 on Sunday mornings when buses will run every 12 minutes. Route 91 will be operated by Go Ahead London from this date.

 

Route 141

Two additional journeys from Palmers Green to London Bridge Bus Station will be introduced in the AM peak on Monday to Fridays on route 141. There will be no other change with route 141 continuing to run every 6 minutes during the AM & PM peak, 6-7 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Fridays, 7-8 minutes during the daytime on Saturdays and every 12 minutes during the evenings and all day on Sundays.

 

Route 143

The school day only journeys at 0805 from Archway Station to East Finchley Cemetery and 1525 from East Finchley Cemetery to Archway Station will be withdrawn. Passengers should use other 143 journeys. No other change to the timetable with route 143 continuing to run every 12 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 15 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays.

 

Route 234

Route 234 will be extended from Highgate Wood via the current 263 route passing Highgate Station and along Archway Road to start and finish at Archway Station. At Archway Station route 234 will finish at bus stop W on Junction Road and start from bus stop G on Highgate Hill. Route 234 will continue to run every 12 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 20 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays.

 

Route 263

Route 263 will continue to run between Barnet Hospital and Highbury Barn but will be rerouted after the Woodside Avenue bus stops on Great North Road via North Hill, North Road, Highgate Village, Highgate High Street, Highgate Hill and Whittington Hospital to Archway Station before continuing to and from Highbury Barn via the current route. Archway Road and Highgate Station will no longer be served please use the newly extended route 234 or current routes 43 and 134.

Route 263 will continue to run every 10 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 12 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays.

 

Route 271

Route 271 will be withdrawn.

Revised route 21 will replace the day service on route 271 between Moorgate, Finsbury Square and Holloway, Nags Head. Revised route 263 will replace the day service on route 271 between Highbury & Islington Station and Highgate Village. New night bus route N271 will replace the current night service on route 271.

 

Route N91

Route N91 will have a new timetable on all nights of the week with minor changes to times. Buses will continue to run every 30 minutes on all nights of the week between Trafalgar Square and Cockfosters Station. Route N91 will be operated by Go Ahead London from this date.

 

Route N271

New night bus route N271 will be introduced on this date between Moorgate, Finsbury Square and North Finchley. 

New route N271 will directly replace the current night service on route 271 between Moorgate, Finsbury Square and Highgate Village before running via the revised route 263 to North Finchley via North Road, North Hill, Great North Road, East Finchley Station, High Road East Finchley, High Road North Finchley and Finchley Memorial Hospital to North Finchley. At North Finchley new route N271 will finish at bus stop Z2 on Ballards Lane and start from bus stop E on North Finchley High Road.

New route N271 will run every 30 minutes on all nights of the week.

 

Route W5

Route W5 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with minor changes to times.

Bus changes in the Central London area

Saturday 28 January

The following timetable changes will take place from Saturday 28 January.

Route 40 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with journey times revised to better reflect current traffic levels.

A temporary timetable will be introduced on route 188 which will widen the frequency to a bus every 9 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays, except during the PM peak on Monday to Fridays when buses will run every 9-10 minutes, and every 13 minutes during the daytime on Sundays. There is no change to the frequency of the evening service. This temporary change is to give buses more time to complete journeys during the major gas main works taking place on Blackwall Lane.

Route X68 will have a new timetable in both the AM and PM peak with journey times revised to better reflect current traffic levels.

 

Saturday 4 February

The following changes will take place from Saturday 4 February.

Route 21 will be rerouted at the junction of New North Road and Baring Street in Hoxton via New North Road, Essex Road Station, Canonbury Road, Highbury Corner, Highbury & Islington Station and Holloway Road to Holloway, Nags Head. Route 21 will no longer serve Baring Street or Southgate Road, which will continue to be served by routes 76 and 141, or Mildmay Park and Newington Green which will continue to be served by route 141. No change to the frequency of the service.

Route 76 will have a new timetable with two additional journeys introduced in the AM peak from Tottenham Hale Bus Station to Waterloo, Baylis Road. No change at any other time.

Route 91 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with minor changes to times.

Route 141 will have a new timetable with two additional journeys introduced in the AM peak from Palmers Green to London Bridge Bus Station. No change at any other time.

Route 271 will be withdrawn and replaced by revised routes 21 & 263. New night bus route N271 will replace the current night service on route 271.

Route N91 will have a new timetable on all nights of the week with minor changes to times.

New night bus route N271 will be introduced running between Moorgate, Finsbury Square and North Finchley. The new route will directly replace the current night service on route 271 between Moorgate, Finsbury Square and Highgate Village before running via the revised route 263 to North Finchley via North Road, North Hill, Great North Road, East Finchley Station, High Road East Finchley, High Road North Finchley and Finchley Memorial Hospital to North Finchley. New route N271 will run every 30 minutes on all nights of the week.

No other permanent changes are currently planned in this area.

Saturday 21 January

The following timetable changes will take place from Saturday 21 January.

A temporary timetable will be introduced on route 268 which will widen the frequency of the service to a bus every 16 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays with no change during the evening or on Sundays. This will give buses more time to undertake the diversionary route during the closure of College Crescent in the Swiss Cottage area to allow for HS2 works to take place.

 

Saturday 4 February

The following changes will take place from Saturday 4 February.

Route 21 will be rerouted at the junction of New North Road and Baring Street in Hoxton via New North Road, Essex Road Station, Canonbury Road, Highbury Corner, Highbury & Islington Station and Holloway Road to Holloway, Nags Head terminating at bus stop X outside City & Islington College. The school day only journeys on route 143 at 0805 from Archway Station to East Finchley Cemetery and 1525 from East Finchley Cemetery to Archway Station will be withdrawn. No change at any other time.

Route 234 will be extended from Highgate Wood via the current 263 route passing Highgate Station and along Archway Road to start and finish at Archway Station. No change to the frequency of the service.

Route 263 will be rerouted between Great North Road and Archway Station via North Hill, North Road, Highgate Village, Highgate High Street, Highgate Hill and Whittington Hospital in both directions. No change to the frequency of the service.

Route 271 will be withdrawn and replaced by revised routes 21 & 263. New night bus route N271 will replace the current night service on route 271.

Route N91 will have a new timetable on all nights of the week with minor changes to times.

New night bus route N271 will be introduced running between Moorgate, Finsbury Square and North Finchley. The new route will directly replace the current night service on route 271 between Moorgate, Finsbury Square and Highgate Village before running via the revised route 263 to North Finchley via North Road, North Hill, Great North Road, East Finchley Station, High Road East Finchley, High Road North Finchley and Finchley Memorial Hospital to North Finchley. New route N271 will run every 30 minutes on all nights of the week.

Route W5 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with minor changes to times.

No other permanent changes are currently planned in this area.

Saturday 21 January

The following timetable changes will take place from Saturday 21 January.

Route 147 will have a new Monday to Friday timetable from this date with the additional PM peak journey that departs Canning Town for Ilford between 1630 and 1700 withdrawn. No change at any other time with buses continuing to run every 8 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays with two additional AM peak journeys from Ilford to Canning Town between 0700 and 0800 on Monday to Fridays, every 10 minutes during the daytime on Sundays and every 12 minutes during the evenings.

 

Saturday 28 January

The following timetable changes will take place from Saturday 28 January.

Route 62 will have a new timetable from this date. Buses will be revised to run every 12 minutes during the during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 15 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays.

Route 86 will have a new timetable from this date. Buses will continue to run every 6 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Fridays however the additional AM peak journeys will be reduced to just two journeys at
•    0751 Manor Park Broadway to Stratford Bus Station
•    0809 Manor Park Broadway to Stratford Bus Station
The two additional PM peak journeys will be withdrawn. Route 86 will also continue to run every 6 minutes during the daytime on Saturdays and every 10 minutes during the evenings and all day on Sundays.

A temporary timetable will be introduced on route 108 which will widen the frequency to a bus every 11-12 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 16-17 minutes during the daytime on Sundays. There is no change to the frequency of the evening service. This temporary change is to give buses more time to complete journeys during gas main works in the East Greenwich area.

Route N86 will have a new timetable on all nights of the week with journey times revised to better reflect current traffic levels.

No other permanent changes are currently planned in this area.

Bus changes in the South London area

This section covers changes to bus routes that pass through the London boroughs of Bromley, Bexley, Croydon, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham, Merton, Southwark, Sutton and Wandsworth. Times for all routes in this area can be found in our journey planner tool http://www.tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey

 

Saturday 21 January

The following changes will take place from Saturday 21 January.

Route 213 will have a new timetable from this date. Buses will be revised to run every 12 minutes during the during the daytime on all days of the week and every 15 minutes during the evenings. Route 213 will continue to run every 30 minutes throughout the night on all nights of the week.

 

Saturday 21 January - B13 change

The stops served by route B13 in Bexleyheath Town Centre will be changed from this date. Buses towards Horn Park will now start from bus stop Z opposite Bexleyheath Library on Townley Road on the southern side of Bexleyheath Town Centre. Bus stop M in the Market Place will no longer be served.

Buses arriving from Horn Park will now finish at bus stop Z opposite Bexleyheath Library on Townley Road and no longer will set down at bus stops B outside Asda or at Friswell Place bus terminus.

Route B13 will have a new timetable from this date with buses running every 20 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 30 minutes during the evenings and all day on Sundays.

Saturday 28 January

The following changes will take place from Saturday 28 January.

Route 40 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with journey times revised to better reflect current traffic levels.

A temporary timetable will be introduced on route 108 which will widen the frequency to a bus every 11-12 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 16-17 minutes during the daytime on Sundays. There is no change to the frequency of the evening service. This temporary change is to give buses more time to complete journeys during gas main works in the East Greenwich area.

A temporary timetable will be introduced on route 188 which will widen the frequency to a bus every 9 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays, except during the PM peak on Monday to Fridays when buses will run every 9-10 minutes, and every 13 minutes during the daytime on Sundays. There is no change to the frequency of the evening service. This temporary change is to give buses more time to complete journeys during the major gas main works taking place on Blackwall Lane.

Route 269 will have a new timetable on Monday to Fridays with an additional journey introduced in the PM peak from Bromley North towards Bexleyheath allowing for a 10-minute service to be provided from Bromley between 1510 and 1610. 

Route 412 will have a new Schooldays only timetable from this date with the AM peak journeys at 0724 & 0744 from Croydon Town Centre to Purley retimed to depart at 0729 and 0749. In the PM peak, the journey from Purley to Croydon Town Centre at 1452 will be retimed to depart at 1511 instead.

A temporary timetable will be introduced on route 422 which will widen the frequency to a bus every 11-12 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 13-14 minutes during the evenings and all day on Sundays. This temporary change is to give buses more time to complete journeys during the major gas main works taking place on Blackwall Lane.

Route X68 will have a new timetable in both the AM and PM peak with journey times revised to better reflect current traffic levels.

 

Saturday 4 February - Route 21 change

Route 21 will be rerouted at the junction of New North Road and Baring Street in Hoxton via New North Road, Essex Road Station, Canonbury Road, Highbury Corner, Highbury & Islington Station and Holloway Road to Holloway, Nags Head. Route 21 will no longer serve Baring Street or Southgate Road, which will continue to be served by routes 76 and 141, or Mildmay Park and Newington Green which will continue to be served by route 141. No change to the frequency of the service.

 

Saturday 4 February

The following timetable changes will take place from Saturday 4 February.

A temporary timetable will be introduced on route 129 which will widen the frequency of the service to a bus every 14-15 minutes during the AM & PM peak on Monday to Fridays & daytime on Saturdays, to 13-14 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Fridays and every 21-22 minutes during the daytime on Sundays. There is no change to the frequency of the evening service. This temporary change is to give buses more time to pass through the East Greenwich area during gas main works on Blackwall Lane.

 

Saturday 11 February

The following timetable changes will take place from Saturday 11 February.

Route 57 will have a new timetable from this date. Buses will be revised to run every 12 minutes during the daytime and evening on all days of the week. The night service will continue to run every 30 minutes on all nights of the week.

No other permanent changes are currently planned in this area.

Saturday 21 January

The following timetable changes will take place from Saturday 21 January.

Route 213 will have a new timetable from this date. Buses will be revised to run every 12 minutes during the during the daytime on all days of the week and every 15 minutes during the evenings. Route 213 will continue to run every 30 minutes throughout the night on all nights of the week.

 

Saturday 28 January

The following timetable changes will take place from Saturday 28 January.

A revised temporary timetable will be introduced on route 267 which will widen the frequency to a bus every 11 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Fridays and every 13 minutes during the daytime on Saturdays. A special 15 minute service will operate during the daytime on Sundays with revised journey times due to traffic delays. This temporary change is to give buses more time to complete journeys during a combination of works in the Brentford area and Network Rail works on Heath Road in Twickenham.

 

Saturday 4 February

The following timetable changes will take place from Saturday 4 February.

Route E2 will have a new timetable from this date. Buses will be revised to run every 8 minutes during the during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 10 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays.

No other permanent changes are currently planned in this area.

Long Term Diversions

Routes Affected: 8, 11, 19, 22, 25, 26, 38, 55, 60, 81, 109, 119, 133, 137, 166, 222, 292, 312, 350, 360, 405, 407, 412, 433, 452, 466, 468, 521, 698, C1, N8, N11, N19, N22, N25, N26, N38, N41, N55, N68, N109, N133, N137, N242, N250, N551, R68, U1, U3 and U5.

Route R68 is currently on diversion towards Hampton Court only due to the closure of Manor Road in Teddington for more cycle lane works. Route R68 is diverting from Strawberry Vale via Waldegrave Park and Waldegrave Road to Broad Street in Teddington Town Centre. Stops on Twickenham Road, Manor Road and Teddington High Street will not be served. Buses towards Kew Retail Park will not be diverted and will remain on normal line of route.

Due to the closure of Sloane Street northbound due to roadworks routes 19, 22, 137, N19, N22 & N137 are currently diverted between Sloane Square and Hyde Park Corner via Cliveden Place, Eaton Gate, Eaton Square, Hobart Place and Grosvenor Place. All northbound stops along Sloane Street and Knightsbridge will not be served.
Route 452 will be diverted between Sloane Square and Knightsbridge Station via Cliveden Place, Eaton Gate, Eaton Square, Hobart Place, Grosvenor Place, Hyde Park Corner and Knightsbridge to Knightsbridge Station.
Route C1 will be diverted between Elizabeth Street and Brompton Road via Eaton Square, Belgrave Place, Chesham Place, Pont Street & Beauchamp Place. Sloane Square, Sloane Street and Knightsbridge Station will not be served.

Due to road layout changes at Kensal Rise Station by the local borough, route 452 is suspended between Ladbroke Grove, Sainsbury's and Kensal Rise Station until further notice. Passengers should use route 52 between Ladbroke Grove, Sainsbury's and Kensal Rise Station. Route 452 continues to run as normal between Ladbroke Grove, Sainsbury's and Vauxhall Bus Station every 10 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 12 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays.

Due to the collapse of the carriageway on Station Approach at West Drayton Station buses are unable to serve the bus stops directly outside the northern entrance to West Drayton Station. For bus routes 222, 350, 698, U3 and U5 passengers should use bus stops H for southbound buses and stop G for northbound buses (both named Ferrers Road) on Station Road which is a short walk from the Warwick Road entrance to West Drayton station. Route U1 will set down at bus stop C and pick up from bus stop D on Horton Road. These arrangements will continue until the works to rectify the issues with the carriageway have been resolved.

The westbound contraflow bus lane on Bloomsbury Way is currently closed with routes 19, 38, 55, N19, N38, N41 and N55 diverting via Procter Street and High Holborn to New Oxford Street. Bus stops B (Bloomsbury Square) and C (Museum Street) are closed please use bus stop Q, on High Holborn, or bus stop R on New Oxford Street instead. The contraflow bus lane is due to reopen in mid-December.

Due to roadworks closing bus stops on Capitol Way in Colindale buses on route 292 are currently terminating at bus stop CX, named Carlisle Road, on Edgware Road. Towards Borehamwood buses on route 292 are currently starting at the temporary bus stop on Capitol Way located opposite the car park exit to Asda.

Threadneedle Street is closed until further notice eastbound only with routes 8, 11, 26, N8, N11, N26 and N242 diverting between Bank and Liverpool Street via Lombard Street, King William Street, Gracechurch Street and Bishopsgate . Routes 133 and N133 are diverting in both directions between Monument and Liverpool Street Bus Station via Gracechurch Street, Bishopsgate and Wormwood Street. Route N551 towards Trafalgar Square is diverting from Camomile Street via Bishopsgate and Threadneedle Street to Bank and towards Gallions Reach buses from Bank Station via Princes Street, Moorgate, South Place, Eldon Street and Blomfield Street to London Wall.

Due to the damage caused by a recent fire, Slough Bus Station is currently closed with bus route 81 unable to serve the Bus Station. Buses are terminating at bus stop H on Wellington Street opposite Tesco and picking up passengers from bus stop PQ outside Lloyds Bank on Slough High Street.

Park Street in Croydon is closed eastbound until further notice with routes 60, 109, 433, 455, 468, N68, N109 and N250 towards West or East Croydon diverting via Katharine Street and Park Lane. Buses are not serving stop KE on Park Street and using stop KC on Park Lane instead.

Katharine Street in Croydon is part closed westbound until further notice with routes 60, 119, 166, 312, 405, 407, 412, 455, 466, 468 and N68 are diverting via Fell Road, Park Lane Roundabout and Edridge Road.

Due to temporary road layout changes at the junction of Chelsea Bridge Road and Grosvenor Road for a cycle scheme buses towards Royal Albert Hall on route 360 are now turning directly from Grosvenor Road into Chelsea Bridge Road and not serving Chelsea Embankment or Bull Ring Gate. The revised route will be in place until October 2023. There is no change to the route of buses travelling towards Elephant & Castle.

Angel Street in the St Paul's area of City of London is now closed until spring 2025 to allow building works to take place. Buses travelling eastbound towards Bank on routes 8, 25, N8, N25 and N242 or towards Cannon Street on route 521 are diverting from King Edward Street via Little Britain, Montague Street and Aldersgate Street to St Martins-le-Grand. Buses are serving all stops on this diversionary route.
