Bus changes

Canada Water bus station temporary closure - from 2 March

From Saturday 2 March until mid-April, Canada Water bus station will be closed for improvement works. This closure will affect bus routes 1, 47, 188, 199, 225, 381, N199, P12, N381 and C10. Buses will be diverted or stop short of their normal destinations.

Canada Water Tube and Overground station will remain open during the closure. The information window at the bus station will also remain open for customers. During the works, allow extra time for your journey and use nearby alternative bus stops.

New route SL3 introduced - 24 February 2024

Route SL3 will be introduced from Saturday 24 February.

Route SL3 will run as an express bus service between Bromley North Station and Thamesmead Town Centre via Bromley Town Centre, Chislehurst, Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, Bexleyheath Town Centre and Abbey Wood.

Route SL3 will run every 12 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturday and every 15 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays.

First buses will be timed to depart Bromley North Station at 0500 on all days of the week.

First buses will be timed to depart Thamesmead Town Centre at 0500 on all days of the week.

Last buses will be timed to depart Bromley North Station at 0030 on all days of the week.

Last buses will be timed to depart Thamesmead Town Centre at 0030 on all days of the week.

Changes to buses from Saturday 24 February 2024

The following timetable changes will take place from Saturday 24 February.

Route 86 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with minor changes to times.

Route 242 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with minor changes to times. Route 242 will be operated by Stagecoach London from this date.

Route 277 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with minor changes to times.

Route 283 will have a new timetable from this date. On Saturdays the early morning frequency will be increased to every 15 minutes before 0800 with minor changes to times during the rest of the day. On Sundays first buses will be retimed to be at the same time as on Monday to Saturdays, 0522 from East Acton and 0550 from Hammersmith Bridge. The early Sunday morning frequency will also be increased to every 15 minutes before 0900 with minor changes to times during the rest of the day. There will also be minor change to the timetable on Monday to Fridays.

Route 322 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with journey times revised to better reflect current traffic levels.

The temporary timetable will be removed from route E2 with the service returning to run every 8 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 10 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays. 

Route N242 will have a new timetable on all nights of the week with minor changes to times. Route N242 will be operated by Stagecoach London from this date.

Route N277 will have a new timetable on all nights of the week with minor changes to times.

New route SL2 introduced - 2 March 2024

Changes to buses in Sutton & Croydon from Saturday 2 March 2024

A number of structural changes will be taking places to bus routes in the Croydon and Sutton area from Saturday 2 March 2024.

 

Route 166 West Croydon - Epsom Hospital

Route 166 will be re-routed between South Croydon, Swan and Sugar Loaf and Purley Cross Tesco and will no longer serve stops on Brighton Road.  Route 166 will run via Pampisford Road and Haling Park Road instead replacing withdrawn route 455. 

For stops along Brighton Road between South Croydon, Swan and Sugar Loaf and Purley Cross Tesco use bus routes 60, 312, 407 or 466 instead.

A new timetable will be in place with revised departure times on most journeys. However, there is no change to the frequency of the route with buses running every 20 minutes between West Croydon and Banstead and hourly onto Epsom Hospital on Monday to Saturday daytimes and every 30 minutes between West Croydon and Banstead during the evening and all day on Sundays. 

 

Route 312 Norwood Junction - Purley, Old Lodge Lane

Route 312 will be extended beyond South Croydon bus garage via Brighton Road to Purley Cross double running via Purley Road to serve Purley Station and Tesco then via the current 455 route via Brighton Road and Reedham Station to Old Lodge Lane.

A new timetable will be in place with buses running every 12 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 20 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays. This will provide and additional 2 buses per hour along Brighton Road and Old Lodge Lane on Monday to Saturday daytime and by 1 bus per hour during the evening and all day on Sundays.

First buses will depart Purley, Old Lodge Lane for Norwood Junction at 0430 and from Norwood Junction at 0510 on all days of the week. Last buses will depart Purley, Old Lodge Lane for Norwood Junction at 0010 and from Norwood Junction at 0100 on all days of the week. This provides earlier and later buses to Reedham Station and Old Lodge Lane on all days of the week.

 

Route 434 Coulsdon, Ridgemount Avenue - Caterham Station

Route 434 will be restructured south of Purley Cross with buses now running to and from Caterham Station via Godstone Road and Croydon Road serving the stations at Kenley, Whyteleafe, Upper Warlingham and Whyteleafe South.

Route 434 will no longer serve Foxley Hill Road, Beaumont Road, Higher Drive, Northwood Avenue, Oaks Road, Oaks Way, Park Road, Kenley Lane, Valley Road, Beverley Road, Hornchurch Hill and Whyteleafe Hill. These roads will be served by new bus route 439 instead.

A new timetable will be in place with buses running every 30 minutes between 0700 and 2000 on all days of the week.

First buses will depart Coulsdon, Ridgemount Avenue for Caterham Station at 0705 and from Caterham Station at 0640 on all days of the week. Last buses will depart Coulsdon, Ridgemount Avenue for Caterham Station at 2005 and from Caterham Station at 1930 on all days of the week 

 

"New" Route 439 Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's - Whyteleafe South

New route 439 will be introduced running between Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's and Whyteleafe South, Wapses Lodge Roundabout via Purley Town Centre replacing part of route 434.

New route 439 will run Waddon Marsh close to the Sainsbury's store and Tram Stop, via Trafalgar Way, Purley Way and Purley Cross Tesco to Purley Station. Then from Purley Station via the current 434 route via Godstone Road, Foxley Hill Road, Beaumont Road, Higher Drive, Northwood Avenue, Oaks Road, Oaks Way, Park Road, Kenley Station, Kenley Lane, Valley Road, Beverley Road, Hornchurch Hill, Whyteleafe Hill, Whyteleafe Station, Upper Warlingham Station, Godstone Road and Whyteleafe South Station to terminate at Wapses Lodge Roundabout.

Route 439 will run every 30 minutes between 0700 and 2000 on all days of the week.

First buses will depart Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's for Whyteleafe South, Wapses Lodge Roundabout at 0645 (0701 at Purley Station) and Whyteleafe South, Wapses Lodge Roundabout at 0655 (0714 at Purley Station) on all days of the week. Last buses will depart Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's for Whyteleafe South, Wapses Lodge Roundabout at 2006 (2021 at Purley Station) and Whyteleafe South, Wapses Lodge Roundabout at 1954 (2009 at Purley Station)  on all days of the week.

 

Route 455

Route 455 will be withdrawn and replaced by changes to bus routes 166, 312 and S4.

 

Route 470 Colliers Wood Station - Sutton Station, The Quadrant

Route 470 will be withdrawn between Sutton Station and Epsom Town Centre with this section of route replaced by new bus route S2. At Sutton Station buses will set down and pick up at the main Sutton Station bus stops on Brighton Road as well as on The Quadrant for the side entrance to the station by platforms 3 and 4.

Route 470 will also be rerouted between Sutton Common Road and Sutton Green via Marlborough Road, Dibdin Road, Stayton Road and Hallmead Road. It will not serve the hail and ride sections of Sutton Common Road or Angel Hill which will be served by revised route S3 instead.

A new timetable will be in place with buses running every 30 minutes on Monday to Saturdays with no service after 2100 or anytime on Sundays.

 

"New" Route S2 St Helier Station - Epsom Town Centre

New route S2 will be introduced running between St Helier Station and Epsom Town Centre via Sutton Town Centre replacing parts of routes 470 and S4.

New route S2 will run from St Helier Station via the current S4 route to Sutton Station via Green Lane, Wrythe Lane, St Helier Hospital, Whitby Road, Duke of Edinburgh Road, Edinburgh Road. Grennell Road, Benhill Road, Oakhill Road, Thicket Road, Benhill Avenue and the Sutton Town Centre one-way system to Sutton Station. From Sutton Station new route S2 will replace the current route 470 running via Mulgrave Road, Worcester Road, York Road, Dorset Road, Northey Avenue, Sandy Lane, Cheam Station, Cheam Town Centre, Ewell Road, Cheam Road, Ewell East Station, Ewell By-Pass, Reigate Road, Ewell Town Centre, Epsom Road, and East Street to Epsom High Street to start & finish in Epsom Town Centre.

Route S2 will run every 20 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 30 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays. This provides a Sunday service for the first time between St Helier Station and Sutton Station and Sutton Station and Epsom Town Centre. It also provides a late evening service for the first time between Sutton Station and Epsom Town Centre.

First buses will depart St Helier Station for Epsom Town Centre at 0600 (0618 at Sutton Station) and from Epsom Town Centre at 0620 (0649 at Sutton Station) on all days of the week. Last buses will depart St Helier Station for Epsom Town Centre at 2350 (0005 at Sutton Station) and from Epsom Town Centre at 0010 (0034 at Sutton Station) on all days of the week.

 

Route S3 Belmont Station - Malden Manor Station

Route S3 will be re-routed between Sutton Common Road and Sutton Green via Sutton Common Road and Angel Hill. It will not serve the hail and ride sections of Marlborough Road, Dibdin Road, Stayton Road and Hallmead Road which will be served by revised route S3 instead.

A new timetable will be in operation on route S3, but the frequency will remain as now with buses running every 20 minutes between 0600 and 2015 and every 30 minutes between 2015 and 2145 on Monday to Saturdays. As now there will be no late evening or all day Sunday service.

 

Route S4 Sutton, Marshall's Road - Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's

Route S4 will be extended from Roundshaw to Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's replacing route 455 via Plough Lane, Croydon Road, Beddington The Plough, Hilliers Lane, Beddington Lane, Beddington Asda, Beddington Lane, Coomber Way, Therapia Lane Tram Stop, Ampere Way Tram Stop, Franklin Way and Purley Way to start and finish on Trafalgar Way close to Waddon Marsh Sainsbury's and Tram Stop. 

Route S4 will be withdrawn between Sutton Town Centre and St Helier Station with this section of route replaced by new bus route S2. In Sutton Town Centre buses will start and finish journeys at bus stop D on Marshall's Road.

A new timetable will be in place with buses on route S4 now running every 20 minutes during the daytime and every 30 minutes during the evening on Monday to Saturdays. A new Sunday service will also be introduced with buses running every 30 minutes during the daytime and evening.

First buses will depart Sutton, Marshall's Road for Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's at 0515 and from Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's at 0545 on all days of the week. Last buses will depart Sutton, Marshall's Road for Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's at 0000 (Midnight) and from Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's at 2345 on all days of the week.

Changes to buses from Saturday 2 March 2024

The following timetable changes will take place from Saturday 2 March

A temporary timetable will be introduced on route 5 which will widen the frequency of the service to a bus every 8 minutes between 1300 and 1530 & every 7 minutes between 1530 and 1900 on weekdays, every 7-8 minutes between 1300 and 1900 on Saturdays and every 8-9 minutes between 1000 and 1900 on Sundays. This temporary timetable will give buses more time to complete journeys during road closures and the subsequent disruption in Romford Town Centre.

A temporary timetable will be introduced on route 15 which will widen the frequency of the service to a bus every 13 minutes at all times on Monday to Fridays, Saturday evenings and all day on Sundays and to a bus every 11 minutes during the daytime on Saturdays. This temporary timetable will give buses more time to complete journeys during the closure of Charing Cross Road and the subsequent disruption in the Trafalgar Square area.

Route 58 will have a new timetable from this date. The 12 minutes frequency on weekdays will be extended from 1900 to 2000. No change to the frequency at any other time.

Route 97 will have a new timetable from this date. The frequency of the service in the early mornings will be increased to run every 12 minutes from first bus in both directions. The evening frequency will be increased to every 12 minutes on every day of the week. No change to the frequency at any other time.

Route 101 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with minor changes to times.

Route 159 will have a new timetable on Monday to Fridays with journey times revised to better reflect current traffic levels.

Route 215 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with minor changes to times.

The summer Sunday extension of route 246 from Westerham to Chartwell House will be reintroduced from Sunday 3 March for the 2024 season.

Route 309 will have a new timetable from this date. The evening frequency will be increased to every 15 minutes on all days of the week. No change to the frequency at any other time.

Route 325 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with minor changes to times.

A temporary timetable will be introduced on school route 650 with the morning journeys retimed to run 5 minutes earlier than currently. AM journeys will now depart Romford, North Street Bus Garage at 0746, 0748, 0750 and 0752. This temporary timetable will be in place until the road closure in Romford Town Centre finish.

A temporary timetable will be introduced on school route 656 with the morning journeys retimed to run 5 minutes earlier than currently. AM journeys will now depart Gidea Park, Gallows Corner Tesco at 0743 and 0745. This temporary timetable will be in place until the road closure in Romford Town Centre finish.

A temporary timetable will be introduced on route C10 which will widen the frequency of the service to a bus every 8 minutes in the AM peak on Monday to Fridays and to every 8-9 minutes in the PM peak on Monday to Fridays and during the daytime on Saturdays. This temporary timetable will be in place during the closure of Canada Water Bus Station.

A temporary timetable will be introduced on route E6 with the route curtailed to run between Bulls Bridge Tesco and Greenford Bus Garage only due to HS2 works on Oldfield Lane. Please use alternative routes to reach Greenford Broadway and Greenford Station.

Route W11 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with minor changes to times.

Changes to routes 346 & 497 - 9 March 2024

From Saturday 9 March route 346 will be changed to run from Upminster Park Estate to Harold Hill, Dagnam Park Square via Cranham, Upminster Station, Shepherds Hill, Harold Wood Station, Kings Park, Gallows Corner Tesco, and Chatteris Avenue. Route 497 will be withdrawn to be replaced by the new look route 346.

Route 346 will now run from Waycross Avenue on Upminster Park Estate via its current route to Upminster Town Centre before then following the 347 routing to Harold Wood Station via Hall Lane, Shepherds Hill, Squirrels Heath Road, and Gubbins Lane. From Harold Wood Station the new look 346 will then replace in full route 497 to Harold Hill, Dagnam Park Square running via Gubbins Lane, St Clements Avenue, Kings Park Estate, Nightingale Crescent, Lister Avenue, Tesco at Gallows Corner, Whitelands Way, Colchester Road, Tangent Link, Ashton Road, Faringdon Avenue, Chatteris Avenue, Hilldene Avenue  to the shops at Harold Hill before looping round to terminate at Dagnam Park Square.

At Harold Wood Station, route 346 will serve bus stop B in the forecourt of the station in both directions.

Route 346 will now run every 20 minutes during both the daytime and evening on Monday to Saturdays and every 30 minutes during the evening. A new Sunday service will be introduced from this date running every 20 minutes during both the daytime and evening. 

First buses on route 346 will depart Harold Hill, Dagnam Park Square at 0521 on all days of the week passing Harold Wood Station at 0541 and Upminster Station at 0552. First buses will depart Upminster Park Estate at 0525 on all days of the week passing Upminster Station at 0536 and Harold Wood Station at 0546.

Last buses will depart Harold Hill, Dagnam Park Square at 2330 on all days of the week passing Harold Wood Station at 2349 and Upminster Station at 2400. Last buses will depart Upminster Park Estate at 0020 on all days of the week passing Upminster Station at 0030 and Harold Wood Station at 0040

Long term diversions

Kingston Cromwell Road bus station is closed until Summer 2024. Buses which normally stop in the bus station or on Cromwell Road are serving temporary stops, diverting or stopping short of their normal destinations. Stops A1 to A16 and Z1 as well as stop R on Wood Street are closed for the duration of the works. Two new temporary bus stops with shelters are located to the east of the bus station on Cromwell Road. Eden Street is partially closed southbound in Kingston Town Centre from 24 January until early March 2024. Routes 65, 71, 85, 281, 371, 406, 418, 465, K2, K3 & N65 will divert via Wheatfield Way serving a temporary stop that will be in place during the works.

Route E2 is diverted in both directions due to the closure of Windmill Road underneath the M4 elevated section due to roadworks. Towards Greenford buses will double run via A4 Great West Road with no stops missed. Towards Brentford buses will divert from Windmill Road via Great West Road and Boston Manor Road to line of route. These works will continue until February 2024.

Envoy Avenue in the Hatton Cross area is closed westbound while roadworks take place. Routes 90 towards Feltham, 285 towards Kingston and 423 heading towards Hounslow are diverted via the Eastern Perimeter Road and will be unable to serve bus stop M on Envoy Avenue, No change to buses in the eastbound direction. The closure will be in place until the end of March 2024.

Eastern Road in Romford Town Centre is currently closed to buses travelling south through Romford Town Centre. Routes 5, 103, 165, 174, 175, 193, 248, 252, 294, 365, 498, 499 and N15 will all be diverted between the bus stops at Mercury Gardens by Asda and Romford Station via Mercury Gardens, Thurloe Gardens, Oldchurch Road to the roundabout at Waterloo Road then back via Oldchurch Road, Thurloe Gardens and Victoria Road to South Street. Routes 5, 103, 174, 175, 498, 499 and N15 are serving a temporary bus stop on Victoria Road. Routes 66, 86, 128, 247, 296, 347, 375, 651, 674, 686 and N86 are also diverting between the bus stops at Mercury Gardens by Asda and Romford Station but going via Mercury Gardens, Thurloe Gardens and South Street to Atlanta Boulevard. Finally routes 370, 496, 649 and 650 are diverting between the bus stops at Mercury Gardens by Asda and Romford Station via Mercury Gardens, Thurloe Gardens and South Street to Victoria Road. Bus Stops Q and QQ on Western Road and T on South Street are not being served during this closure. There is no change to the routeing of buses heading north from Romford Station. This closure is due to finish at the end of March 2024.

Charing Cross Road is closed northbound from Duncannon Street to William IV Street until at least Saturday 13 April for gas main works. Route 29 is currently only running between Wood Green and Tottenham Court Road, use route 24 between Tottenham Court Road and Trafalgar Square. Route 176 is currently only running between Penge and Aldwych, use routes 139 or 188 for stops between Aldwych and Tottenham Court Road. Routes 24, N5, N20, N29, N41 and N279 are diverted northbound only between Trafalgar Square and Cambridge Circus via Cockspur Street, Pall Mall, Waterloo Place, Piccadilly Circus and Shaftesbury Avenue to Charing Cross Road with no change to southbound buses towards Trafalgar Square.

Eversholt Street is closed until mid-April 2024 for major gas works. Route 1 is diverted towards Canada Water via Crowndale Road, Pancras Road, Midland Road and Euston Road to Upper Woburn Place re-joining line of route at bus stop M. No change to the route of buses towards Hampstead Heath. Route 253 is currently running between Hackney Central and Mornington Crescent Station only with no service between Mornington Crescent Station and Euston Bus Station. Routes N5 and N20 towards Trafalgar Square and route N253 towards Tottenham Court Road Station are diverting after bus stop W, named Pratt Street, on Bayham Street via Crowndale Road, Millbrook Place, Harrington Square, Liddlington Place and Hampstead Road to Tottenham Court Road. 

Ship Hill is currently closed between Maesmaur Road & Borough Road for Thames Water works. Route 464 is only operating between New Addington and Biggin Hill, Stock Hill before diverting to start and finish at Biggin Hill, Kings Road. A minibus shuttle is in operation between Biggin Hill, Kings Road and Tatsfield running via Sunningvale Avenue, Ricketts Hill Road, Church Hill, Clarks Lane & Tatsfield Approach Road. This will be in place until at least 29 April 2024.

Due to major roadworks at Manor Circus roundabout in Richmond route 110 is currently diverted towards Hounslow direct via Kew Road between Kew Gardens and Richmond Circus. Route 110 is unable to serve Kew Gardens Road, Sandycombe Road or Lower Mortlake Road. Journeys towards Hammersmith are unaffected. Route R68 is currently running between Hampton Court Station and Twickenham, York Street only. Route R70 now runs between Hampton, Nurserylands and Kew Retail Park. Interchange between the R68 & R70 in both directions is on York Street in Twickenham. These works are due to finish sometime in the spring of 2024.

Route 394 is currently on diversion towards Homerton Hospital due to the closure of Wimbourne Street. Route 394 is diverting from Cropley Street via Eagle Wharf Road, New North Road, Baring Street, Bridport Place and Poole Street to New North Road. No stops will be missed. Buses towards Islington Angel will not be diverting and will remain on normal line of route. The diversion will now be in place until Summer 2024.

Beech Street in the Barbican area is currently closed westbound due to building works. Route 153 towards Finsbury Park is diverting after leaving Liverpool Street Bus Station with buses going via London Wall and Aldersgate Street to Barbican Station to get back on route. The stops on Moorgate and Chiswell Street will not be served. There is no change to the route towards Finsbury Park. This closure will be in place until November 2024.

Due to road layout changes at Kensal Rise Station by the local borough, route 452 is suspended between Ladbroke Grove, Sainsbury's and Kensal Rise Station until further notice. Passengers should use route 52 between Ladbroke Grove, Sainsbury's and Kensal Rise Station. Route 452 continues to run as normal between Ladbroke Grove, Sainsbury's and Vauxhall Bus Station every 10 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 12 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays.

Due to the collapse of the carriageway on Station Approach at West Drayton Station buses are unable to serve the bus stops directly outside the northern entrance to West Drayton Station. For bus routes 222, 350, 698, U3 and U5 passengers should use bus stops H for southbound buses and stop G for northbound buses (both named Ferrers Road) on Station Road which is a short walk from the Warwick Road entrance to West Drayton station. Route U1 will set down at bus stop C and pick up from bus stop D on Horton Road. These arrangements will continue until the works to rectify the issues with the carriageway have been resolved.

Due to roadworks closing bus stops on Capitol Way in Colindale buses on route 292 are currently terminating at bus stop CX, named Carlisle Road, on Edgware Road. Towards Borehamwood buses on route 292 are currently starting at the temporary bus stop on Capitol Way located opposite the car park exit to Asda.

Due to the damage caused by a recent fire, Slough Bus Station is currently closed with bus route 81 unable to serve the Bus Station. Buses are terminating at bus stop H on Wellington Street opposite Tesco and picking up passengers from bus stop PQ outside Lloyds Bank on Slough High Street.
