Please note, the figure cited in the advert does not state that 1000 lives were lost on London roads last year. The statistic relates to the average number of people killed or seriously injured each year between 2018 and 2022, where excessive speed was noted as a contributory factor. The numbers used are from personal injury road traffic collisions occurring on the public highway, reported to TfL by the Metropolitan or City of London police, in accordance with the Department for Transport’s STATS19 national reporting system.

Turning to your specific questions, they are answered as follows. Data is for 2022, the last full year for which data is available, and the last year for which the data cited in the advert your refer to relates (albeit, as per your request, the data below refers to fatalities only, not to fatalities and serious injuries as cited in the advert):

Question a) How many killed in 40+mph areas

Answer: 23

Question b) How many killed in 30mph areas:

Answer: 47

Question c) How many killed in 20mph areas:

Question d) How many killed in 20 or less mph areas

Answer: For 20mph areas the answer is 32, as already given above in answer to question c. There are no speed limits below 20mph on the public highway.

Question e) What is the cost of this advertising campaign?

Answer: The advertising cost to date is £584,260.56
