Please provide me with the source of data which concludes the poorest of Londoners do not own cars, including the number of people surveyed and how they were selected.

Thank you for your requests received by Transport for London (TfL) on 31 March 2022 asking for information about the source of data which i) concludes the poorest of Londoners do not own cars, including the number of people surveyed and how they were selected, ii) concludes the around six in ten car journeys are made by single occupants, including the number of people surveyed and how they were selected and iii) concludes the a third of car journeys made are less than 2km, including the number of people surveyed and how they were selected.

Your requests have been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

The source of the data is our London Travel Demand Survey 2019/20 (LTDS) which confirms the three statements referred to in your requests. The LTDS is our household survey of London residents, which runs annually and samples 8,000 households per year. Data from the LTDS feeds into the Travel in London reports each year. These can be viewed on our website at the following location: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/travel-in-london-reports. The survey data from the LTDS 2019/20 fed into the Travel in London 13 report.
