Hi, I would like to know the following information for the years 2015, 2016, 2017. • How many buses were being used by Transport for London on the capital's roads in each year? • How many bus routes were in operation in each year? Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 14 February 2018 asking for information about buses.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require.

The following link provides details of all the buses used by TfL from March 2016 when we started to collate this information in a common form for the public:

This also shows each bus route with the vehicles against them including night (prefixed by N and the route number).

Please note that in accordance with s21 of the FOI Act we are not obliged to provide the requested information if it is already accessible elsewhere.

We do not calculate the average frequency of bus routes each year as this information does not assist with managing the bus network. We also do not record information by borough. Many bus routes operate across two or more boroughs, and compiling information by boroughs again would not help us in operating a good service.
