TfL Ref: FOI-3425-2223
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 16th March 2023 asking for information about the removal of an oak tree and other vegetation on Blackhorse Lane.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“Please let me know why an oak tree and shrubs/vegetation in TfL land leading up to Blackhorse Lane bridge (on the left-hand side, whilst coming from Lower Addiscombe) were removed circa 2018/2019.”
From the description provided we are not certain of the precise location you are referring to. Note that Blackhorse Lane itself does not form part of the Transport for London Road Network (TLRN - sometimes known as the ‘red routes’ - see here for more information: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/red-routes). If the vegetation was on the roadside then this would be a matter for Croydon Council. FOI requests to the Council can be made via its website here:
However, it is possible that this relates to the clearance of some trees and vegetation undertaken as part of the Blackhorse Lane bridge replacement project on the Tram network. If you able to provide a more accurate description of the area in question (highlighted on a map if possible) then we can confirm whether this was indeed related to this project, part of business as usual maintenance, or something else.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely,
