FOI request detail

Road surface at Rectory Road / Manse Road junction

Request ID: FOI-3398-2223
Date published: 17 April 2023

You asked

Could you please confirm the dates of all reports you received related to the slippery road surface that caused my accident, how many other accidents were notified to you and what preventative action was taken in response to those accidents including the accident involving xxxx that occurred the day before my accident? Clarification received 20/03/2023: I suggest it would be better to simply provide the details for all of February (1-28 2023).

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-3398-2223

Our Customer Services team have passed over your request of 10th March 2023 - detailed below - asking for information about the road surface at the Rectory Road / Manse Road junction.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

Could you please confirm the dates of all reports you received related to the slippery road surface that caused my accident, how many other accidents were notified to you and what preventative action was taken in response to those accidents including the accident involving James Pope that occurred the day before my accident?”.

I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Please note that there are different sources from which such incidents might be reported to TfL. Personal injury collision data is formally reported to us by the police. However, the latest such data we have is only to the end of October 2022. We will not have February 2023 information until later in the year, likely around July / August. This data is presented in our Road Danger Reduction Dashboard (see here: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/road-safety#on-this-page-0). Note that it is possible to search an area using the Collision Map.

Separately to this, incidents may be referred to us by local authorities. We were informed by Hackney Council of two such incidents, one on 17th February 2023 and one on 18th February 2023. The first of these was reported to our Customer Services team on 17th February who then relayed it to our Asset Operations team on 20th February. The second was reported on 20th February. Our contractors were sent to the site that day to inspect it and put sand and “spill dry” on the road surface to make it safe. Note that by the this stage the police and London Fire Brigade had already been informed, and the Fire Brigade had already visited the site and put sand on the road surface prior to the visit by our contractors.

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
