TfL Ref: 3151-2223
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 24 February 2023 asking for information about LTNs.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked: Please could you provide the TOTAL costs of London's Low Traffic Neighbourhood Schemes from 2019 - 2023 to include but not limited to consultation fees, design fees, public notice costs, installation costs, maintenance costs and any removal or repair costs.
Starting in March 2020 the Department for Transport (DfT) provided TfL with funds for the delivery of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, School Streets and Social Distancing schemes on borough roads, in response to the immediate and then longer-term effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Funding was provided across two workstreams: the London Streetspace Programme (which utilised part of a £55m Active Travel allocation from Government as part of the emergency funding deal agreed in May 2020), and the Active Travel Fund, a £20m package of dedicated DfT funding for local authorities to deliver ambitious schemes enabling walking and cycling. In both cases, TfL assessed bids from the boroughs and distributed funding accordingly, and TfL officers supported boroughs through the design and delivery process of these schemes.
We are forecasting to spend £20.3m from financial year 2020/21 to the end of 2022/23 on delivery of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods. Further details on this subject can be found at the following link: https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/boroughs-and-communities/streetspace-funding. Beyond the £20.3m, during this time TfL also continued investing in other active travel and bus priority projects such as the construction of Old Street gyratory removal and new permanent cycle routes.
