FOI request detail

Reported injuries sustained whilst using London trains and buses

Request ID: FOI-2953-1920
Date published: 27 January 2020

You asked

I would like to be provided with reports of injuries sustained as a result of using TfL transport. I would like the information to include London overground, underground and buses. The information I would like is between the period of 2018 - present. Regarding incidents with LU and Overground, it would be preferable if all reported injuries that occurred at the station inclusive of those involving a train. I would be grateful if the data was to include the tube line. Regarding injuries on the transport, if you have a more general classification for the injuries sustained instead of specific injuries and statistics of each, that would be fantastic.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

We already publish information on our health and safety performance in annual reports, which are available on the TfL website at the following link https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/health-safety-and-environment They include data on customer injuries, which you asked about, on all modes of transport.

In accordance with section 21 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply you with a copy of the requested information as it is already accessible to you elsewhere.

Furthermore, section 22 provides an exemption to the release of information where it is due for publication at some future date and where, in all the circumstances of the case, it is reasonable to withhold it until publication. In this instance more recent data on customer injuries will be published on the TfL website later this year.

The use of this exemption is subject to an assessment of the public interest in relation to the disclosure of the information concerned. We recognise the need for openness and transparency by public authorities and the particular public interest in disclosure of this information. However in this instance, it is considered that the public interest favours the publication of this information, in context and according to the pre-determined schedule, rather than in response to your request, to ensure the information is provided accurately and in an accessible manner.
