Access to images recorded on body worn cameras on ULEZ security staff
Request ID: FOI-2791-2324 Date published: 23 November 2023
You asked
The security staff accompanying mobile ULEZ vans are equipped with body worn cameras. Could you tell me:
1. Are these security personnel instructed to inform members of the public when they commence filming?
2. Is there any external indication on the camera that recording is taking place, such as a light that comes on?
3. If a member of the public thinks that they have been recorded by one of these cameras, who should they contact to obtain copies of that footage?
4. What is the retention policy for the images recorded?
Many thanks. I thought I had already requested some of this information, but cannot find an acknowledgement from TfL.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
1. Are these security personnel instructed to inform members of the public when they commence filming?
All our mobile camera van security personnel who wear Body Worn Video are required to advise they are turning on the camera for the protection of the public, themselves and our assets. Camera activity is also indicated by a light.
2. Is there any external indication on the camera that recording is taking place, such as a light that comes on?
Yes, a light will activate when the camera is on. The colour of the light varies from model to model.
3. If a member of the public thinks that they have been recorded by one of these cameras, who should they contact to obtain copies of that footage?
