Date published: 31 January 2019

You asked

Are you able to share the plans for 2019? In particular I’m interested in numbers serving Epping vs Hanault trains with the customer numbers included. My experience is that the Epping trains are always so much busier than Hanault trains.

TfL Ref: FOI-2765-1819

Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 10 January 2018.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

Passenger numbers are publically available on the TfL website at https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/underground-services-performance  This is also true of the present timetable (Working Timetable 69) which can be found at https://tfl.gov.uk/cdn/static/cms/documents/wtt-69-central.pdf.

In accordance with section 21 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply you with a copy of the requested information as it is already accessible to you elsewhere.

Aside from any planned engineering weekend works which will be notified in advance on the TfL website, weekend services will not be changed during 2019. For weekdays, there will be a minor change to the service during 2019, affecting the end of the AM peak including services to Epping and Hainault and applies to weekdays commencing Tuesday 23rd April 2019. This change includes the following alterations:

  • New train starting at Hainault at 08:50 to West Ruislip via Woodford (where it replaces 08:55 departure from Loughton to West Ruislip, which no longer runs between Loughton and Woodford).

  • The current 07:27 train from Ruislip to Epping is diverted at Woodford to Hainault arriving at 08:44 and no longer runs between Woodford and Epping.

  • The current 07:36 Train from Ruislip Gardens to Woodford is extended from Loughton to Debden arriving 08:51.

  • The current 08:55 departure from Epping to West Ruislip is amended to start at Debden at 09:01 and no longer runs between Epping and Debden.

  • New Train from Hainault at 09:20 to Ealing Broadway (where it replaces the 09:26 departure from Newbury Park to Ealing Broadway)

  • The current 08:21 White City to Newbury Park is diverted at Leytonstone to Hainault via Woodford (where it becomes the existing 09:09 departure to Ealing Broadway), this train no longer runs between Leytonstone and Newbury Park.

These proposed amendments will allow the remaining services to be provided with one fewer eight car train. Removal of this train will facilitate the start of a programme of replacing the motors across the train fleet as part of the Central Line Improvement Programme (CLIP). Services at other times of day will remain as per the linked timetable during 2019. Works associated with the CLIP project will continue until 2023 and further alterations to the service are likely in 2020.
