TfL Ref: 2513-1920
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 15 November 2019 asking for information about Crossrail cycle carriage policy and how we are encouraging walking and cycling.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked: Please supply the following information under the Freedom of Information Act and supply in electronic format:
Details of the cycle carriage policy for Crossrail (Elizabeth Line) including the central London section when opened.
Details of how walking and cycling is to be encourage using Crossrail (Elizabeth Line).
The current cycle policy for TfL Rail is as per the published information on our website: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/cycles-on-public-transport. We will be shortly amending the times for this for the Paddington-Reading section to ensure that we are aligned with GWR policy and ensure a consistent policy for the West route.
In accordance with section 21 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply you with a copy of the requested information as it is already accessible to you elsewhere.
Regarding a policy for carriage of cycles on the Elizabeth line when it is fully open, unfortunately we do not hold this information. It is TfL’s ambition that all new stations on our network are to include cycle parking, cycling infrastructure and urban realm improvements to make walking and cycling more attractive and a viable option, which includes actively promoting walking or cycling to new Elizabeth line stations, as an alternative to driving. We will be promoting this through marketing and other communications when the time comes. However these plans are in the very early stages of development, so we do not current hold a specific plan or strategy and not much greater detail to share at this point.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
