Hi TfL,
Alongside being a passionate Tube enthusiast myself, I also study Demography and data.
We recently had a nation-wide Census in 2021 that I took part in & have been breaking down & analysing the population trends of the UK & London since then.
Since Transport for London (TfL) is one of the biggest employers for Londoners as a whole & also a Government organisation, I just wanted to similarly ask if you could similarly provide me with the demographic data of TfL's workforce.
In particular just like the UK govt. data, I am looking for the population numbers of the latest available year such as:
1) Ethnicity groups as the UK govt. classifies:
🇬🇧 White - British
🇮🇪 White - Irish
🇮🇳 Asian - Indian
🇵🇰 Asian - Pakistani
🇧🇩 Asian - Bangladeshi
🇨🇳 Asian - Chinese
...and the other non-national ethnic groups (like Arabs, Africans, other Asian, other White, Caribbean, Mixed race, etc.)
2) Religious groups, in particular the number of:
✝️ Christians
☪️ Muslims
🕉️ Hindus
☸️ Buddhists
🪯 Sikhs
✡️ Jews
...non-religious & other religion (eg. Taoist, Shintoist, Confucianist, Jain, Zoroastrian, Baha'i) populations.
3) the most-common Languages spoken by TfL employees (other than English), such as:
🇵🇱 Polish
🇷🇴 Romanian
🇮🇳 Punjabi (ਪੰਜਾਬੀ)
🇵🇰 Urdu (اُرْدُوِ)
🇵🇹 Portuguese
🇪🇸 Spanish
🇦🇪 Arabic (اَلْعَرَبِيَّةُ)
🇧🇩 Bengali (বাংলা)
🇮🇳 Gujarati (ગુજરાતી)
🇮🇹 Italian
🇮🇳 Hindi (हिन्दी)
🇮🇳 Telugu (తెలుగు)
🇮🇳 Tamil (தமிழ்)
🇮🇳 Malayalam (മലയാളം)
...and all the other most-spoken languages.
4) The most-common nationalities that TfL has hired from other than British passport holders
5) What % percentage of TfL staff have GCSE, A-Level & Degree-level qualifications?
6) The percentage share of genders working for TfL
7) the percentage share of Age brackets (eg. 20-30) of TfL's workforce
8) the percentage of Londoners & non-London residents working for TfL
9) the number of employees working for TfL as of the latest available data
It will be helpful if I can be able to get an idea of the general demographic data of the workforce of an organisation like TfL. Of course, I don't intend to ask for any personal details of anyone but rather get an overall picture of TfL's population through percentages or numbers (as suitable), so it will be helpful if you can help me find out. Even if all of these categories aren't known or available, I would appreciate as many of them as you're able to help me out with.

Therefore, the headcount and Diversity data are out slightly, with Diversity data last updated on the 09 September 2024 and headcount data on 19 November 2024. Where totals do not match the total headcount this is because data has not been supplied.
