TfL Ref: 2167-1617
Thank you for your email received by us on 4 February 2017 asking for information about Oyster card usage and expenditure on Oyster card wallets.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked for:
how much approximately you spend on Oyster card wallets per month or year and how many you order (as you have the free wallets on each station),
Oyster card wallets are provided directly by our ticketing contractor, Cubic, who use the basis of an estimated requirement for around six million wallets a year. Wallet costs incurred by Cubic are not identifiable as a separate expenditure because they are included in core contract deliverables. Transport For London does not order wallets directly from the manufacturer.
also how many users do you have at the moment using the Oyster card (not contact less). The numbers do not have to be precise
We cannot identify the number of Oyster card users, only the number of cards in circulation. We publish a range of Oyster related information such as this on our website at: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/oyster-card
In accordance with section 21 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply you with a copy of the requested information as it is already accessible to you elsewhere.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
