Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 17 September 2019.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

How many miles of road under your jurisdiction currently have double red lines/are classified as red routes?

How many miles of road under your jurisdiction had double red lines/been classified as red routes in September 2018, September 2017, September 2016, and September 2015?

London's red routes form a network of major roads that make up 5% of London roads called the Transport for London Road Network (TLRN). The TLRN consists of 580 kilometres of roads pan London. This hasn’t changed since 2015.

Do you currently have any plans to increase or decrease the number of double red lines on your roads in the foreseeable future? If so, please provide details.

We currently have no plans to increase or decrease the TLRN.

What penalties do you issue to people who break red route rules?

These are for moving contraventions (including yellow boxes, bus lanes and banned manoeuvres), parking and loading bay restrictions and for stopping on single and double red lines. More information can be found on our website at https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/red-routes/rules-of-red-routes

How many penalties have you issued to people breaking red route rules over the last five years? Please provide a year-by-year breakdown.

The total number of Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) issued is published on the London Councils website. We provide them with PCN figures annually – please see
