Request ID: FOI-1390-2425 Date published: 15 August 2024
You asked
Hi there
Under FOI, I would like to know how much time the rolling stock on London Underground spends out of service, broken down by the class of rolling stock.
I am happy for this information to be presented in any way that is possible for TfL. Ideally, it would show the total number of possible service days (number of units of each stock multiplied by the number of days its line(s) operated in the past year) and the total number of those days that the fleet of each stock was unavailable.
I would like this data for at least the past 12 months, with the most recent year end available to TfL.
If possible, I would like as many years of this data as you are able to provide under the restrictions of FOI.
Again, if possible under the restrictions of FOI, I would love for this data to be broken down by the reason the stock was unavailable (e.g. routine maintenance, non-routine maintenance, accident repair, etc.).
Please don't hesitate to ask if anything within my request is unclear.

We measure when trains aren’t available as NOOK stock incidents, typically these are assigned to each peak (morning and evening) so a missing train will cause 2 NOOK stock counts in a day. We have compared the NOOK stock count to the timetable requirements and provided a % of timetabled trains available. If you wish to calculate the % of each fleet available you should be able to calculate this using the attached data and the size of each fleet which is available in the Rolling Stock Data Sheets available here, this should be a simpler calculation as the fleet sizes is constant unlike the timetable requirements which vary by day.
In accordance with section 21 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply you with a copy of the requested information as it is already accessible to you elsewhere.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
