Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 6 July 2023 asking for information about the A41 Finchley Road between Swiss Cottage and Hendon Road.    .

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.

The death of any person on London’s streets is a tragedy. We make a wide range of information available as part of our commitment to Vision Zero. We have adopted an ambitious Vision Zero goal to eliminate deaths and serious injuries from London’s transport network. This is described in the Vision Zero Action Plan, which sets out a systemic approach to road safety, with improvements to street design, vehicle speeds and compliance, safety behaviours and vehicle designs and technology. Achieving Vision Zero will be a long-term project and, while we have made good progress in recent years, there is still more to do.

I would like please to be sent, for the past 6 months:

- the total number of speeding offences issued to drivers between 20mph and 30mph.

Transport for London does not hold this information as the Metropolitan Police are responsible for enforcing speeding contraventions and would need to be contacted directly for this data via: https://www.met.police.uk/rqo/request/ri/request-information/rip/request-information-police/request-information-about-police/foi-request-form/

- the total number of injuries or fatalities on the road in the same stretch in the same period.

In accordance with the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply the information you have requested for this part of your request as it is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information, under Section 22 of the Act.

An exemption has been applied in this instance as the casualty data that we do hold is intended for future publication by December 2023 on the London Collision Map dashboards here: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/road-safety which also features our Zero Vision Plan and supplementary road collision research. Please also note that the collision data we publish online is released monthly; the latest information publicly available is of March 2023. As we tend to publish our data using an approximate window period of five months, data to July 2023 will become publicly available in December 2023.

This exemption is subject to a public interest test, which requires us to assess whether the public interest in applying the exemption outweighs the public interest in disclosure at this time. In considering the public interest, we recognise the expectation of openness and transparency placed on public authorities by the FOI Act. However, in this instance, it is considered that the public interest favours the publication of this information, in context and according to the pre-determined schedule, rather than in response to your request, to ensure the information is provided accurately and in an accessible manner.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
