Our ref: FOI-0971-2122/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9 August 2021 asking for information about the junction of Parson Street and the Great North Way.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

I am writing to request information about the bottom of Parson Street where it meets the Great North Way in Hendon (near NW4 1EH). Please could you let me know:

  1. Whether a pedestrian crossing was previously there and, if so, when it was removed and why.

As I am sure you are aware, this is a signalised junction but only has pedestrian crossing facilities to cross the A1 Great North Way, but not Parson Street nor Holders Hill Road (the side roads).

We have checked historic data from 1993, 2006, 2009 and more recently 2018 and none of these records show a pedestrian facility across Parson Street.

  1. The number of accidents to have been recorded there in the past 5 years.

There have been fourteen personal injury collisions recorded at this junction in the five years to end April 2021, which is the latest information we have. Two are recorded as serious and twelve slight.

These collisions resulted in fifteen people being injured, two seriously and thirteen slightly. All 2021 data is currently provisional and subject to change.

A further breakdown is shown in the table below:

Details of personal injury collisions in London can also be found on TfL’s website, including an interactive dashboard:
