TfL Ref: FOI-0927-2122
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 10th August 2021 asking for information about central London bus routes.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“1) What bus routes are to be withdrawn entirely or re routed in the foreseeable future?
2) Will buses in Central and Greater London continue to have PVR reductions?
3) Will any new bus routes be created?”
The ‘foreseeable future’ is not a precise term. However, note that TfL is constantly reviewing the bus network, and in the context of reductions outlined in the Financial Sustainability Plan (which can be found on our website here: https://content.tfl.gov.uk/financial-sustainability-plan-11-january-2021.pdf) we are looking at a four per cent reduction in the kilometres operated on the bus network to respond to expected future travel patterns including a passenger reduction in central London and increase in outer London town centres. We will consult on any structural changes to the bus network that involve withdrawal or re-routeing of services. We are reducing the frequency of routes in central and inner London as part of this. This process is underway. Changes will be shown on the TfL Website here:
As part of our review we are also looking to address growth areas in outer London. For example, we are proposing to introduce new bus routes in Sutton and Croydon. Details can be found here: https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/sutton-croydon-bus-changes/ We are still considering responses to this consultation and expect to publish our response to those in late August / early September.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
