FOI request detail

Piccadilly line upgrade

Request ID: FOI-0791-2425
Date published: 20 June 2024

You asked

Dear Freedom Of Information, Hope you are well. I am emailing to ask if there are any more information about the Piccadilly closure in 2025 for the line upgrade. Some information that would greatly assist with our living situation: 1. When is the closure about to take place. 2. How long would the closure last? 3. Is the closure across the whole line? 4. If the closure is not across the whole line then please give the time frames when each section of the line is shut. Thank you for your time.

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-0791-2425

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7th June 2024 asking for information about the Piccadilly line upgrade.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

I am emailing to ask if there are any more information about the Piccadilly closure in 2025 for the line upgrade. Some information that would greatly assist with our living situation:

1. When is the closure about to take place.
2. How long would the closure last?
3. Is the closure across the whole line?
4. If the closure is not across the whole line then please give the time frames when each section of the line is shut.”

Please see this previous request on the same subject, and our response, posted on the FOI pages of our website here:

To confirm, we have a number of weekend closures planned for Piccadilly Line Upgrade works. The majority of these are in 2025 and relate to closures to test the new trains. Our closure planning process means that closures are agreed and approved approximately six months before a closure takes place. We routinely publish this information on our website at planned-track-closures.pdf (tfl.gov.uk) and it is usually updated every Friday. Therefore, for information already published, in accordance with section 21 of the FOI Act we are not obliged to supply you with the requested information as it is already accessible to you elsewhere. Beyond six months our plans are still subject to being finalised and may change in the intervening period. This information is therefore exempt from disclosure at the current time under section 22 of the Freedom of Information Act, which applies to information that is ‘intended for future publication’.

Section 22 is a ‘qualified’ exemption, meaning we have to consider whether the greater public interest rests in the exemption applying and the information being withheld, or in releasing it now. We appreciate the need for openness and transparency in the running of our business, and the fact that you have requested the information is in itself an argument in favour of immediate release. However, as referenced above, given the information may be subject to change, and given the public will be given 6 months’ notice of planned closures in any event, we believe the greater public interest rests in the exemption applying and the information being published in accordance with the predetermined schedule.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
