You asked
Hi
Can I have any reports that have been prepared to brief the cycling commissioner or senior officers of any cycle counts undertaken for TfL or from TfL or borough cycle counters since January 2020 to date. I am not asking for additional work to prepare these.
We answered
Our ref: FOI-0377-2122/GH
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 23 May 2021 asking for cycle statistics.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.
Officers from our City Planning directorate met the Walking & Cycling Commissioner in March and presented information including cycle count statistics. The relevant information from this update is attached. We publish our data on cycle numbers annually and this can be found in the Travel in London reports which are published here: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/travel-in-london-reports
Reports provided to senior managers on specific schemes would also often contain cycle count information, but in order to provide these we would need to locate and review every report from the last 18 months, and this would exceed the cost restraints on answering FOI requests. (Under section 12 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to comply with requests if we estimate that the cost of determining whether we hold the information, locating and retrieving it and extracting it from other information would exceed the ‘appropriate limit’ of £450 set by the Freedom of Information (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004).
You may wish to consider refining your request based on anything that is of interest arising from the information we have provided or be more specific in relation to the information you are seeking – perhaps by referring to particular schemes or routes.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
If you are considering submitting a further FOI request please think carefully about whether the request is essential at this current time, as answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. Where requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by the current situation.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
