Freedom of Information request

Request ID: FOI-0138-2021
Date published: 22 May 2020

You asked

F/on from FOI-2510-1920 I wonder if I might pursue the final figures for 2019 on the number of fatalities on the stretches of road covered by TfL’s average speed camera schemes. As you will see from your email below in December, it was hoped to have the final figures on this by the end of April.

We answered

Our ref: FOI-0138-2021/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 29 April 2020 asking for information about road fatalities.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.

Unfortunately we do not hold the information you require. Our intention was to have full final 2019 data by end April but due to data quality issues and the current issues caused by coronavirus, this has been delayed. We now hope that the information will be finalised by July.

As stated previously we receive details of fatalities separately from the police and we now publish details on our website here under Provisional figures;

https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/road-safety

This has records for 2019 and to end March 2020 for London. Although still provisional, it is unlikely that the 2019 details will change. Location details, borough, date and mode are shown so the information you need to search and collate the requested information should be available. All fatalities are shown including those that do not meet DfT STATS19 criteria and will not show in our end of year figures - these are clearly marked as non-stats19.

Please note, the Government has announced a series of measures to tackle the coronavirus. It is essential for London, that we continue to provide a safe transport network for essential journeys.

In current circumstances, we are not able to answer FOI requests readily and we ask that you please do not make a request to us at present.

Answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. In any event, please note that our response time will be affected by the current situation.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
