A40 Western Avenue - HS2 works

The A40 Western Avenue will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between Hanger Lane and Alperton Lane from Monday 27 May to the end of October 2024.

This is for work on a gas main as part of tunnelling work for HS2.  See the HS2 website for more information about it.

  • At busy times, there will be 2 lanes in both directions
  • On some nights, there will be 1 lane open in each direction from 22:00-05:00
  • On some nights, there will be full closures of the road in one direction (with diversions) from 00:00-05:00

There will be a temporary 20MPH speed limit through the roadworks from Thursday 27 June when the second phase of works begins on the gas main. The speed limit is being lowered for the safety of workers and will be enforced by the Metropolitan Police

Expect long delays along the A40 and on the A406 on all approaches to the Hanger Lane gyratory. Local routes will be extremely busy.
