I am currently doing some research on staff training around disability and would like to find out what mandatory training staff at TFL have. If you could provide me with details on what if any Disability awareness training they have and also anything on Equality that would be really helpful.

Thank you for your request received on 7 March 2018 asking for information about staff training around disability.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.
I am currently doing some research on staff training around disability and would like to find out what mandatory training staff at TFL have. If you could provide me with details on what if any Disability awareness training they have and also anything on Equality that would be really helpful.
We offer a range of disability and equality training, including the following:
• Valuing people – Classroom and eLearning
• Unconscious bias – Classroom and eLearning
• Dyslexia assessments and ongoing classes to support dyslexic members of staff
• Dyslexia support guides and checklists
• Deaf Awareness and British Sign Language – classroom
• Visual Awareness – classroom
• Dyslexia/Dyspraxia Awareness – classroom
• English for employees with dyslexia and/or dyspraxia – classroom
Unconscious Bias training is mandatory for anyone doing interviews through transformation work streams. No other training is mandatory as such, however valuing people is part of managing essentials which is a recommend programme for all line managers to complete
All London Underground operational employees undertake the following mandatory disability awareness training:
Understanding how TfL demonstrates its commitment to the Equality Act by making our service, as reasonably practicable, to people with disabilities. Staff undergo training to use the following interventions to assist with disabled passengers:
• Yellow lines on platform
• Digital voice announcers on trains
• Tactile paving
• Step-free Access guides (including online guides). Copies of these are found on the stations inside the Supervisor’s office. They are also available to order from our LU Disability Unit.
• Colour Large print Tube maps
• Audio Guide to London
• Portable Induction Loops
• Ramps
• Internet Journey Planning sites
Our operational employees also undertake compulsory equality, diversity and inclusion training. This training allows them to understand Equality Act, and how this applies to working at TfL and how this relates to our passengers.
