Thank you for your email received by us on 06 March 2018 asking for information about On The Move (OTM) Magazine.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Launched in 1995, London Underground employee magazine, OTM is an innovative and award-winning publication.

Readership is all current London Underground employees of all sexes, all faiths, all working age groups and of all staff grades. This includes employees in operational and non- operational roles. OTM is particularly targeted at our frontline employees, telling the thousands of staff what’s going on across the business every month. These are typically our most hard to reach audience group, who have little or no access to our other channels.

  1. The annual cost of designing and producing OTM Magazines – £156,024.00

  2. The annual cost of printing the OTM Magazines – £43,332.00*

  3. The annual cost of posting OTM Magazines to staff – £83,232.00**

  4. The total annual costs for the OTM Magazine – £282,588.00

NB: Distribution circa 15,000 including digital edition, 24 pages including cover. A contract with the supplier began on 1 July 2018. The costs shown above are budgeted and taken from year one.

* Third party print and paper costs may fluctuate

** Based on individual copies to homes mailed in clear poly carrier, plus postage estimated at 39 pence per copy which may increase.

We are working to reduce printing costs by encouraging more staff to read the magazine online rather than in print. A subscription management website has been in place since October 2015. By February 2018  3,431 employees had opted out of receiving a printed copy delivered to their home address. We will be reviewing the contract to take into consideration the impact of such changes and will use this opportunity to look into making other efficiency savings.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
