Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 5 March 2018 asking for information about the uptake of mobile wallet and mobile payments across our network.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Currently 48% of all pay as you go journeys across the network are made using contactless, of which those using a mobile device is 11.87%. This figure was 8.43% in April 2017 and 7.54% in April 2016.

Contactless journeys made using a mobile device has increased about 66% in the last 12 months -  with 166, 489 contactless journeys being made using a mobile device in April 2017 compared with 276, 908 contactless journeys made using a mobile device in April 2018.
