Request ID: FOI-4689-2324 Date published: 12 April 2024
You asked
I would like to know some information regarding TFL application process.
1) how many applications did you receive last year for apprenticeships? And out of those how many candidates actually received an offer?
2) I have heard from internal employees that it’s easier to get a job into TFL if you know someone inside TFL already. How true is this ?
3) can you guys put the number of offers your willing to give out for each role on the job application when you advertise the job so people have a idea how many candidates they are going up against?
Thank you

TfL Ref: FOI-4689-2324
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 19th March 2024 asking for information about TfL recruitment and apprenticeships. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
In answer to your first question, TfL received 12,438 applications with 157 offers made.
In answer to your second question, this is not a request for recorded information under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act. However, that said, please note that at TfL we do not run a referral scheme for internal or external candidates. If candidates are referred or recommended they are asked to apply like everyone else and the applications for both internal and external recruitment Bands 1-4 are anonymised to make it a fair process. In addition, we have a diverse hiring manager panel of a minimum of two interviewers again to make it a fair process.
In answer to your third question, again this is not a request for recorded information under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act. That said, this is not something we do as standard. However, if there are multiple roles or we are doing a big campaign we will state this on the advert.
If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely,
