A40 40 mph average speed limit between the Polish War Memorial Roundabout to Perivale

You asked

Dear Transport for London, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to submit a Freedom of Information (FOI) request regarding the speed limit on the A40, specifically in the section between the Polish War Memorial Roundabout to Perivale. As a follow-up to the FOI [FOI-1702-1819], it was understood that the adjustments on the A40 speed limit, particularly the reduction to 40 mph in the section from approximately the Polish War Memorial Roundabout to Perivale, was down to the defective vehicle restraint system/barrier. Given the recent completion of the barrier replacement, I am interested in understanding when the speed limit on the A40 will be reinstated to its previous limit of 50 mph. I kindly request clarification on the timeline for this restoration. Furthermore, I would like to highlight the characteristics of this section of the A40, which include the absence of direct property frontages, grade-separated junctions, and limited access for pedestrians and cyclists. Considering these features, the risk to pedestrians and motorists is low. Therefore, I am concerned that the current 40 mph speed limit may not align with the actual safety needs of the road. In light of these considerations, I am requesting a review of the current speed limit and consider restoring the speed limit to 50 mph in the mentioned section of the A40. I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to receiving the requested information within the statutory timeframe as per the Freedom of Information Act. Thank you for your cooperation. Kind regards
