FOI request detail

Services on Uxbridge branch of metropolitan line

Request ID: FOI-4670-2324
Date published: 15 April 2024

You asked

I wish to receive the number of trains on the metropolitan line by month going in the direction of Uxbridge to Baker Street direction through Ruislip Manor station, by month, for financial years 22/23, 23/24 and 24/25 until March 2024 or latest available. This is the number of trains actually running per month not the number of scheduled trains or the timetable I would also like to compare the average length of time between met line trains at Ruislip Manor station comparing financial year 23/24 with the last 3 months. I also want the number of days on which no Information about incoming metropolitan line trains was available on the arrivals screen at the station. I would also like to receive information on the number of days in the last 6 months that TFL reported a good service on the Uxbridge branch of the metropolitan line.

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-4670-2324

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 18th March 2024 asking for information about services on Uxbridge branch of Metropolitan line.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

I wish to receive the number of trains on the metropolitan line  by month going in the direction of Uxbridge to Baker Street direction through Ruislip Manor station, by month, for financial years 22/23, 23/24 and 24/25 until March 2024 or latest available. This is the number of trains actually running per month not the number of scheduled trains or the timetable

I would also like to compare the average length of time between met line trains at Ruislip Manor station comparing financial year 23/24 with the last 3 months.

I also want the number of days on which no Information about incoming metropolitan line trains was available on the arrivals screen at the station.

I would also like to receive information on the number of days in the last 6 months that TFL reported a good service on the Uxbridge branch of the metropolitan line.”

I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Please see the spreadsheets attached in answer to Questions 1, 2 and 4. You may need to expand the width of some columns to read the data in full. Please also note that:

  • For Questions 1 and 2: you have asked for the “number of trains running per month” in the first question, whereas in the second question you ask to know the “average length of time between met line trains”. Our data team colleagues have therefore provided numbers by day and broken down by hourly slots, which allows you to work out the average trains per hour for specific days, or hours of the day, or to add them up, etc.

  • For Question Q4: we have provided all the status messages from the Metropolitan Line for this period.

In answer to Question 3, our records show that there was only one fault related to customer information at Ruislip Manor, on the 9th April 2024 (“One side of dot matrix flickering”).  There were no other reported faults for the last few years. However, note that information at the station is limited to showing trains once they have left Uxbridge (an approximately 7-8 minute run time). The off peak service is currently at 7.5 minute intervals, so in normal service there should (just about) always be a train shown on the board, but if there any service delays or cancellations then there can be periods when no data is present. This will be resolved through the 4LM project (see here) in early 2026, when at least 20 minute’s notice will become available.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
