We answered
Our Ref: FOI-4652-2324
Thank you for your request received on 21 March 2024 asking for information about Night Tube ridership.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.
The information you have requested is available in the NUMBAT output files published on our website:
Data for Friday Night Tube demand will be in the FRI files, and Saturday in the SAT files, named for example: “NBT19SAT_Outputs.xlsx”.
The ‘Line Boarders’ tab for the Central, Jubilee, Northern, Piccadilly, Victoria and London Overground East London lines. The figures show the number of passengers boarding each line within each quarter hour on a typical Friday or Saturday in the respective year.
Please note the following:
• If a passenger interchanges, i.e. they board one line at 0130 and board another line at 0145 they will be counted twice in the data, as a boarder on each line. • NUMBAT data is based on typical days in the autumn period of each year, as this is when demand is most consistent. • There is no strict definition of “night tube”, so it is difficult to isolate the exact moment that “night tube” starts and ends and this will be different depending on where you are on the network. However, the data between 0030 and 0500 should provide the information required.
The other tabs provide a more detailed breakdowns on demand, for example the “Link Loads” tab shows the number of people travelling between any two stations on the network in a particular quarter hour.
Under section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act, we are not obliged to provide you with information which is reasonably accessible by other means.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
