Thank you for your email received by us on 21 February 2018 asking for information about the Northern Line extension.
 
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked for the following:
 
Could you please share all emails/letters – spanning the period 1 July 2017 to Monday 22 January 2018 – between TfL’s director of strategy and network development, and the director of major projects, and Battersea Power Station Development Corporation on the Northern Line extension's additional £240m cost from the revised project design by the BPSDC?
 
In accordance with the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply any of the information requested as it is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information under section 43(2) which exempts information where disclosure would be likely to prejudice commercial interests. We have determined that disclosure of this information would negatively impact the commercial interests of both TfL and third parties with respect to potential claims which could result in additional costs, as well as delays to the project.
 
The use of this exemption is subject to an assessment of the public interest in relation to the disclosure of the information concerned. Whilst we recognise that there is a public interest in transparency, we feel that there is a greater public interest in ensuring that our commercial interests are protected to ensure that we continue to be able to obtain best value for money in ongoing projects.
