Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 13th March 2024 asking for information about maximum speeds on the Northern Line. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“What is the maximum speed of the 95 stock on the northern line? Specifically if possible between Nine Elms and Kennington, Clapham South and Clapham Common and Kennington to Waterloo northbound. Please provide the maximum speed, not the average and provide the data in MPH.”
I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
The maximum speed of the 95 stock is 45mph. There are currently no speed restrictions between Nine Elms- Kennington or Clapham South – Clapham Common. There is, however, a temporary speed restriction between Kennington and Waterloo limiting the speed to 25mph.
