Origin/destination matrix of travel times in London, WebCAT Time Mapping (TIM)
Request ID: FOI-4598-1718
Date published: 20 March 2018
You asked
I am a researcher at University of Surrey and I am writing to enquire if you are able to provide the origin/destination matrix of travel times in London used for the WebCAT Time Mapping (TIM).
Ideally, the data we need are for:
Year: 2011
Mode: All public transport modes
Time of Day: AM peak, between peak times, PM peak (AM peak is most important for us) Geographic scale: LSOA
If the exact data are not available, other close alternatives will also be appreciated (for example, for year 2012 at MSOA scale).
We answered
TfL Ref: 4598-1718
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 19 February 2018 asking for information about our Origin/destination matrix of travel times in London, WebCAT Time Mapping (TIM).
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
Please find enclosed a CD which contains the following information which you requested:
- Year: 2011 – Base Year – representative of the current network
- Mode: All public transport modes
- Time of Day: AM peak
We have only supplied the AM Peak because, in reality, travel time differences between MP, IP and EP will be relatively small. We can still supply this, please let me know.
The Origins/Destinations data use the Railplan model zoning system. We have included this data as a MapInfo layer. The zones are constrained to the GLA/borough boundaries but not always LOSA or MSOA boundaries. You need to apply some proportional over lap factor to accommodate for this.
We have also included travel time zones outside London. The model is primarily London focused. Zones outside London will give travel times based on rail journeys into London and include bus routes only where they cross the GLA boundary.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
