You asked
Hello, may I know on whose authority distinction was removed between standard white bus stops and 'request' stops? Also, may I see the documentary record of this decision?
We answered
TfL Ref: 4587-2324
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 13 March 2024 asking for information about changes to bus stops.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. You asked: may I know on whose authority distinction was removed between standard white bus stops and 'request' stops? Also, may I see the documentary record of this decision?
This issue was consulted on in 2007 and decision made to abolish these was made some time subsequent to that. The decision was part of the strategy of making accessing TfL’s bus services easier for passengers. Once enacted bus drivers had to now be prepared to stop at any TfL bus stop whether red (‘Request’) or white (‘Compulsory’) if an intending passenger made it clear that they wished to board the bus.
Our document retention policy means that we only keep records for a 7year period so we do not hold the information you have requested however we can say that this will have been a Surface Transport Board decision.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
