Our ref: FOI-4568-2324/GH
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 8 March 2024 asking for information about cycling adequacy on the A5.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold some of the information you require.
However, we are refusing your request under section 14(1) of the Act, as we consider that providing the requested information would place an unreasonable burden on us. Our principal duty is to provide an effective transport service for London and we consider that answering this request would represent a disproportionate effort. It would be a significant distraction from our work managing the TfL network, requiring re-allocation of already limited resources and placing an unacceptable burden on a small number of personnel. We do wish to clarify that whilst we consider that your request falls under section 14(1) of the FOI Act, this does not reflect a conclusion that it has been your intention to deliberately place an undue burden on our resources.
You have asked for ‘any information regarding cycling on the A5, anywhere from Marble Arch all the way up to Brent Cross.. in the last 15 years..’ Whilst we could provide information on any current or recent considerations for cycling on this road, searching and collating any relevant information over a 15 year period would be a huge task. We may be able to answer a request if you were able to focus on a much shorter time period, and a more specific location.
TfL is responsible for the red routes which make up the Transport for London Road Network (TLRN). We are therefore responsible for the section of the A5 between Marble Arch and St John’s Wood, it is a borough road north of this point.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
