You asked

Hi there, I would like to request information about Out of Station Interchanges (OSIs) and how they and train lines are shown on the tube map. I would like to know: 1) If, once the Thameslink Programme is complete, the Thameslink route will be shown on the tube map as it will have a service of 24 trains per hours through the centre of London. 2) If the Thameslink Route will be shown, how far north/south it would be shown on the tube map. 3) When Crossrail/Elizabeth Line is complete, whether it will be called Crossrail or Elizabeth Line on the tube map. 4) When Crossrail/Elizabeth Line is complete, how far east the service will be shown on the tube map, as it will go all the way to Reading. 5) If Bowes Park Rail Station to Bounds Green Underground Station is a valid Out of Station Interchange, and if it is, why it is not shown as one on any tube map or tube/rail map or in-carriage map and if you have plans to include it as an OSI on the Tube Map/Inside Carriage Map/Tube and Rail Map in the future. 6) Why Sudbury Hill to Sudbury Hill Harrow is only shown as an OSI inside Piccadilly Line carriages and not on tube or rail/tube maps and if you plan on including it as an OSI on Tube or Tube/Rail Maps in the future. 7) If South Tottenham to Seven Sisters is a valid OSI, and if it is, why it is not shown as one on the Tube Map/Inside Carriage Map/Tube and Rail map and if you have plans to include it as an OSI on the Tube Map/Inside Carriage Map/Tube and Rail Map in the future. 8) If Dalston Kingsland to Dalston Junction is a valid OSI, and if it is, why it is not shown as one on the Tube Map/Inside Carriage Map/Tube and Rail map and if you have plans to include it as an OSI on the Tube Map/Inside Carriage Map/Tube and Rail Map in the future. 9) If Euston to Euston Square is a valid OSI, and if it is, why it is not shown as one on the Tube Map/Inside Carriage Map/Tube and Rail map and if you have plans to include it as an OSI on the Tube Map/Inside Carriage Map/Tube and Rail Map in the future. 10) If Euston Square to Warren Street is a valid OSI, and if it is, why it is not shown as one on the Tube Map/Inside Carriage Map/Tube and Rail map and if you have plans to include it as an OSI on the Tube Map/Inside Carriage Map/Tube and Rail Map in the future. 11) If Harringay to Harringay Green Lanes is a valid OSI, and if it is, why it is not shown as one on the Tube Map/Inside Carriage Map/Tube and Rail map and if you have plans to include it as an OSI on the Tube Map/Inside Carriage Map/Tube and Rail Map in the future. 12) If Kentish Town to Kentish Town West is a valid OSI, and if it is, why it is not shown as one on the Tube Map/Inside Carriage Map/Tube and Rail map and if you have plans to include it as an OSI on the Tube Map/Inside Carriage Map/Tube and Rail Map in the future. 13) Why Battersea Park is not shown on the Tube/Tube and Rail map even though it is served by London Overground services in the Early Morning/Late Evening and if you plan on adding it to the Tube or Tube/Rail map in the future. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for your email received by us on 15 February 2018 asking for information about Out of Station Interchanges (OSIs).

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked for:

information about Out of Station Interchanges (OSIs) and how they and train lines are shown on the tube map.

I would like to know:

1) If, once the Thameslink Programme is complete, the Thameslink route will be shown on the tube map as it will have a service of 24 trains per hours through the centre of London.

2) If the Thameslink Route will be shown, how far north/south it would be shown on the tube map.

I can advise that these matters are currently under review and therefore no decision has yet to be made.

3) When Crossrail/Elizabeth Line is complete, whether it will be called Crossrail or Elizabeth Line on the tube map.

The Elizabeth line.

4)When Crossrail/Elizabeth Line is complete, how far east the service will be shown on the tube map, as it will go all the way to Reading.

This is currently under review and therefore no decision has been made at this stage.

We consider that the existing interchange at Finsbury Park provides a more convenient change for most journeys.

6) Why Sudbury Hill to Sudbury Hill Harrow is only shown as an OSI inside Piccadilly Line carriages and not on tube or rail/tube maps and if you plan on including it as an OSI on Tube or Tube/Rail Maps in the future.

Whilst the inside of Piccadilly line carriages do feature diagrams of the line stating that Sudbury Hill Harrow is 150m walk away, this is not meant to denote an Out of Station interchange. We currently have no plans to show this OSI on our Rail and Tube maps.

The interchange at Blackhorse Road between the Victoria and London Overground lines offers a better alternative. Any changes that we consider making to our maps also need to be weighed up in terms of usefulness and the need to avoid them from looking excessively cluttered with images and notifications.

We believe that the interchanges between London Overground’s northern and eastern branches at Highbury & Islington and Canonbury stations offer a better alternative.

Whilst it is too early to confirm at this stage whether this OSI would definitely be considered in the future, it has been noted as a suggestion. In the meantime, a more comprehensive interchange can be used at King’s Cross between the Northern, Victoria, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan and Circle lines.

We recognise that this would be useful for our London Overground and Underground passengers. However, as previously mentioned, any changes that we consider making to our maps also need to be weighed up in terms of usefulness and the need to avoid them from looking excessively cluttered with images and notifications.

13) Why Battersea Park is not shown on the Tube/Tube and Rail map even though it is served by London Overground services in the Early Morning/Late Evening and if you plan on adding it to the Tube or Tube/Rail map in the future.

Due to the limited services available, this was deemed not worthwhile for the overall network map. However, this does appear on the route map for London Overground in the timetable where these services are advertised.
