TfL Ref: FOI-4535-1718
Thank you for your clarified request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 15 February 2018 asking for information about Santander Cycles.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require. You asked:
Could you supply details of the number of trips taken, the number of actual bikes used and if possible the average distance of each trip over the period 1st Jan 2017 - 31st Jan 2017.
Please see below for trips between 1st – 31st Jan 2017;
- Trips – 632,405
- Bikes used – 11,885
- Average distance – we can’t measure distance perfectly due to the bikes not having GPS. However, we use the calculation of distance = speed x time. The average speed of Santander Cycles in London is 14.9km/h and the average trip duration in January 2017 was 17 minutes therefore we assume the average distance per trip was 4.2 km
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
