Our ref: FOI-4534-1718/GH
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 14 February 2018 asking for information about New Bermondsey Station.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. Unfortunately we cannot confirm the station will be constructed as we are dependent upon the developer contribution -
Planning permission for the development of the area round New Bermondsey (Surrey Canal Road) station (the Renewal scheme) was granted subject to conditions and a legal (Section 106) agreement which requires, among other things, the developer of this site to pay the station construction costs on commencement of their development. This permission was granted in 2012 to Renewal although as the permission runs with the land, the scheme could be implemented by another party who would still be required to comply with the conditions and legal obligations attached to the permission.
TfL is not able to confirm when the station will be built as this will depend upon when the developer commences work on the site and thus triggers the payment obligation. Once the costs of delivery of the New Bermondsey station to a set specification have been paid by the developer to TfL, there will be obligations on TfL to deliver the new station within a set time to serve the first phase of the development.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
