We answered

Our ref: FOI-4452-1718/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9 February 2018 asking for information about Compliance Officers.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

TfL Compliance Officers are deployed to hotspot areas to deter and disrupt criminal and non-compliant taxi and private hire activity, take action against drivers who break the rules and gather intelligence on suspected offenders. Compliance Officers also regularly visit operators and the number of visits to their offices have nearly doubled since extra officers were recruited

The number of Compliance Officers combating unsafe and unlicensed taxi and private hire drivers on London’s streets has grown significantly from 143 in 2016 to 274 today. This increase has seen the number of drivers and vehicles checked on the street rise fivefold, and the compliance rate increasing to 90 per cent.

As of this date, how many fully trained Compliance Officers are currently employed by TFL?

As of the end of Period 11 (which covers the period 07/01 – 03/02 2018) there were 274 officers authorised to carry out compliance duties.

How many Compliance Officers have left, resigned or been dismissed since the 9th February 2017 till the present date?

31 Compliance Officers no longer work for TfL. Natural turnover and the fact that not all new recruits complete the comprehensive and rigorous training programme means that recruitment is currently underway to hire further officers.

How many Compliance Officers on average per day/night were working over the week of Monday 29th Jan till Sunday 4th Feb?

A total of 254 compliance officers worked over the 7 days of Sunday 28th-Saturday 3rd (Sunday-Saturday is our working week).

How many Compliance Officers have been on duty during the last 6 Saturday nights/Sunday mornings?

3rd Feb 18 = 62

27th Jan 18 = 58

20th Jan 18 = 55

13th Jan 18 = 55

6th Jan 18 = 60

30th Dec 17 = 44
