Request ID: FOI-4426-2324 Date published: 14 March 2024
You asked
In respect of TfL staff and drivers of TfL vehicles. I would like to know at what stage and how many points on their DVLA license would affect their ability to drive these vehicles?
In effect if they got points on their DVLA license would they be suspended from driving TfL vehicles and if so how many points would cause this to happen?
All I require is the information relating to drivers of motor vehicles run by TFL not underground or overground trains.

TfL Ref: FOI-4426-2324
Thank you for your request of 5th March 2024. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“In respect of TfL staff and drivers of TfL vehicles. I would like to know at what stage and how many points on their DVLA license would affect their ability to drive these vehicles? In effect if they got points on their DVLA license would they be suspended from driving TfL vehicles and if so how many points would cause this to happen?”.
This was subsequently clarified as follows:
“All I require is the information relating to drivers of motor vehicles run by TFL not underground or overground trains.”
TfL requires staff driving our road vehicles to have a valid driving licence. If staff have been disqualified from driving by the courts then they will not be able to drive a TfL road vehicle. There is no automatic points total at which this happens. Rather, when a driver reaches 12 points in any three year period the courts may ban them from driving. This is discretionary and does not always happen. However, should such a ban be applied by the courts then it would prevent the staff member from driving a TfL road vehicle.
