We answered

Dear

TfL Ref: FOI-4363-1718

Thank you for your email received by us on 01 February 2018 asking for information about Bermondsey underground station.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our Information Access Policy. You asked:

“· How many square metres of land were required for the construction of Bermondsey underground station on the Jubilee Line?
· Of this, how many square metres were required for the station itself and how many for the wider construction site?
· How many buildings/properties had to be demolished in order to build the station?”

Given the extent of the information you are looking for, we are applying Regulation 12(4)(b) as we believe that the request is ‘manifestly unreasonable’ because providing the information you have requested would impose unreasonable costs on us and require an unreasonable diversion of resources. Just to obtain the actual square metres of land for the construction will require us to recall a large volume of files from our storage facility. Whilst we can not be certain that the actual construction site sizes will be held, we expect that, if it is held, the information would be in our archived records due to the time that has elapsed since its creation. Due to the scope of your request, it would take an excessive amount of staff time and resources to provide you with the information  you seek. Additionally it would be difficult to determine at what point we could satisfy ourselves that the information was not held once the process of reviewing the archived information is underway.

However, we have attached some information of interest which we were able to retrieve locally.

The use of this exception is subject to a public interest test, which requires us to consider whether the public interest in applying the exception outweighs the public interest in disclosure. We recognise that the release of information would promote accountability and transparency in public services. However, the time it would take to provide the information you have requested would divert a disproportionate amount of our resources from its core functions and on balance we consider that the public interest currently favours the use of the exception.
