TfL Ref: 4337-1718

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 30 January 2018 asking for information about Wandle Park tram stop - second entrance.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.  You asked:

Further to the FOI response on 6 March 2017 (TfL Ref: 2159-1617), I would like to request the following information:

1. Correspondence relating to the delay of the second entrance being 'delivered later this year' (quote from the FOI response).

2. Details of when the second entrance will be delivered.

3. The budget for the new entrance, including those contributing to the construction of the second entrance (TfL, Croydon Council, for example).

The response you quote from can be viewed at the following link  https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/reason_for_closing_second_entran#incoming-947998

Unfortunately the response given in the original request suggested that TfL has budgeted for the scheme in 2017/2018. This information was given slightly out of context, as originally there was a scheme proposed by the London Borough of Croydon (LBC) to introduce a track crossing further down the track separate from the Tramstop, which would connect Wandle Park and the New South Quarter housing development.

Following an assessment of the proposal it was agreed between London Trams and LBC that a better solution would be to redevelop the old engineering crossing area at the end of the Wandle Park tramstop into a track crossing that would serve the same purpose as the original proposal. LBC commissioned a detailed design. Tom Sweeney (Tom.Sweeney@croydon.gov.uk ) of LBC is the programme manager for the scheme.  You may wish to contact him for further information, or see the following link for further information: https://www.croydon.gov.uk/planningandregeneration/regeneration/connect2

The old engineering crossing was removed in 2017. Safety of the public is a priority to London Trams and the continuous miss-use of the Engineering Crossing led to the decision to remove it. Funding for the scheme in the 2017/2018 financial year was by LBC not TfL. So far they have appointed a Designer to develop the detailed design.

The budget for the new entrance will be provided by LBC since this is a LBC initiative. There will be detailed discussions between LBC and London Trams on this in the future to agree how best the project will be delivered.
