FOI request detail

Vauxhall Bus Station Public Safety

Request ID: FOI-4305-1718
Date published: 26 February 2018

You asked

To whom it may concern, I would like to submit a Freedom Of Information request to TfL regarding data and statistics on public safety around Vauxhall Bus Station. The information is not about crime, rather, about other instances of public safety. I.e., has anyone been hit by a bus since the new bus station was built? Are there any crime statistics for this particular area? For both, I am looking for a 15-year data range if possible. I have contacted Lambeth Council about this and received the following response: "My colleagues advise that due to the ownership of the area in question, Lambeth Council does not hold this information and you would need to submit this request to Transport for London."

We answered

In terms of bus movements Vauxhall is one of the busiest bus stations in London with around 45,000 passengers a day and because of this is staffed when the flows of customers are greatest. We also carry out regular speed checks on site to ensure it operates as safely as possible.

The attached spreadsheet shows incidents including Slips/Trips/Falls and ‘near misses’ reported at the bus station. The last column shows whether the incident resulted in a personal injury, or whether it was recorded as a ‘near miss’. In relation to the high volume of daily customers the rate of incidents is extremely low.

As stated previously, if you require crime information we suggest that you contact the Metropolitan Police and/or the British Transport Police, as this information is not recorded by TfL.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
