Our Ref:          FOI-4293-1718

Thank you for your request received on 25 January 2018 asking for information about the Night Tube Service.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

1. The number of night tube stations currently operational

There are 145 London Underground stations that operate during the Night Tube.

2. The number of stations on the night tube service which are manned by TFL staff (if possible, please also advise if it is full time or just a few hours. i.e 12 - 2am or 12 - 4:30 am )

All stations that are open through the night are staffed.

3. The number of stations on the night tube service which are not manned by TFL staff (if possible, please also advise if it is full time or just a few hours. i.e 12 - 2am or 12 - 4:30 am )

All stations that are open through the night are staffed.

4. The number of stations on the night tube service which are monitored by CCTV (please specify if these are live feeds i.e a force of physical workers in a control room)

All of our stations that are operational for Night Tube have a CCTV system. The images are recorded for post incident review and for the use by police in any investigations that may be required. The images can be viewed at a local facility at the station with the majority also being available remotely in our network control room. We have plans to extend this remote capability. These live views will be used based upon a blend of proactive monitoring, intelligence based monitoring and incident based monitoring. Live views are also provided for the British Transport Police (BTP) CCTV control room.

5. What safety and security precautions are in place at stations which are not manned by TFL staff during the night tube service.

All stations are manned by TfL staff during Night Tube service.

6. How do TFL advise members of the public to report incidents when TFL staff are not visible in stations / platforms?

Station call points are available on all platforms and some ticket halls – these will connect to the local station supervisor. On-station publicity advertises 999/111 for reporting of security critical incidents to the BTP. We also have BTP officers across the network during Night Tube services including a number of stations where there are always dedicated officers.

7. If physical CCTV Camera Operatives exist, what incidents do they report for immediate action by British Transport Police / other organisations ? i.e Theft, Harassment, Assault , Fatalities etc.

CCTV is viewed by a mixture of police, station and control room staff. Our staff will support any customers who become victims of crime and will report incidents to police where required. We will support police investigations by providing evidence and other information. Where accidents occur our own staff will respond in partnership with police resources in line with tried and tested plans.

8. Please provide a breakdown on the number of thefts/ robberies, sexual assaults, fatalities and Violent crimes occurring on the night tube since November 2017.

The table below represents offences reported to the BTP over the course of 13 consecutive weekends.

Offence group Volume (November 4/5 2017 to January 27/28 2018)
Theft of Passenger Property 88
